I did the exact same switch. GSR200 to BTB405. The BTB felt a lot easier and more comfortable to play, and a much better range sound (in my opinion). The pickups and preamp are better than the GSR for sure, the GSR not having a preamp at all. If youre not too sure about preamps do a search on the forum, theres a lot of info and its something you can swap out at a later date.

As a beginner its all about finding an instrument that feels comfortable, so Id head into the shop and try it out. If it feels good snap it up.

Thanks for that info. I will do some searching to read about preamps . So would you say that 250 would be a good, bad or about right price?

I'm outside the US so not too sure about the relative value of $250 but based on the conversion I'd say its an okay price as long as its in good condition. I'd pay that sort of price where I am.

As its second hand you may be able to get a few $ off the price if you ask.

Well I can officially say I am part of the BTB club. Just ordered a new Ibanez BTB 1405. Excited to get this beauty.

Off the bat, this thing is SICK, I played it the same way as I play my SR405 and found that the pick-up pack a punch which means, lighten up the pick hand or turn the volume down. I did not an IEMs in and where I was positioned, I could tell the house had a deep rumble to it.

If you are considering this, with the upgraded electonics, GO FOR IT, you will not be disappointed!

That makes me feel good in reading your review. I had my eyes on this beauty for about a year and have finally just ordered a new one. I play Praise and Worship and our band travels alot. Can't wait to see what this beauty will do.

Strings are really up to you. To each his own. Different string will give each player a different sound.

I put Thomastiks TiJF346 on mine and it's the sound I wanted for my fretless.

I'm glad I got my BTB676F in December and didn't wait for the 2014's to be released.

I don't like the new upper horn of the 2014 BTB body. Check out the BTB686SC ibanez.co.jp
