At worst you wont get any sound from one pickup. Even better, since that part of the circuit is passive you can lower the volume on amp (add limiter if you have one) and than experiment by touching the loose wire to different points. But, yeah, what bumperbass said, all grounds to one common spot

Another question. Is the black paint in the cavity metallic for shielding, or is it just black paint. Should I take this opportunity to install copper foil?

It's cavity conductive shielding paint.
Entirely up to you to install copper foil. I haven't done such thing, cause the shielding paint on my basses are still doing its job properly.

I got my first real bass, an Ibanez BTB 675, about five or six years ago now. Since then it's been more than a trustworthy workhorse, taking my daily abuse and ignorant use! Though, all great racehorses must start to slow one day.. The output is starting to loose connection at times, and it's been growing worse as weeks go by. For a while I hoped I was just me abusing my cables, but it turns out to be not the case (I'll have to apologize to the local music store someday! Took back quite a few cables on the lifetime warranty, whoops!).
Tomorrow I plan to take it out, clean and inspect it for any loose connectors, check the solder, and keep my fingers crossed. However, I still feel it's wise to replace the part after this many years, and plan on doing such no matter the case.
Now, I looked on Ibanez and my jaw hit the ground when I saw the price for a single output. So, naturally, I looked elsewhere, and came upon;

Would this part work as a replacement? It appears to be the exact same part, but the model number differs from the one on the Ibanez website. The model number on Musician's Friend matches every other website I've perused through. But, this one includes the VTG abbreviation in front of it, which I've not seen on any other site, other than the parent company GC, and am ignorant to the meaning of such. Am I just being overly cautious here? I'd love to get this on Musician's Friend as I also am in need of more rosin!

Seems right. And that is the price of two connectors!? 10x cheaper than those at Ibanez site.

And I wish it was two of 'em, but I think it's just a 360 view they're trying to give you (actually the price on MF is a bit more than others like Amazon). It's that and the abbreviations that made me wonder if the part was different at all.

Update on the pan pot. I reconnected everything and it's obvious that the primary issue is the pot is bad.

Sounds like badpot. Could it be only dust?
There are sprays for cleaning pots and contacts, worked wonders on old amps.
PS: my old mix pot had a simle plate spring system(used mostly for center detent). I always wanderd if it is used for omething other than center detent.

It's definitely a bad pot. Exercising it to clean it only makes it worse. Sweetwater is sending me a new one.

Yours?! Great basses. I have two premium 6 string basses 1606E and 1406E (defretted). They are still my primary basses. Boutique quality for less than half the price. Enjoy.
I am impressed so far. The panga panga/purple heart/maple neck and versatile preamp really shine. The fret ends on the treble side of the board need a little work, but I am comfortable dressing those myself.

I am waiting for Ibanez to release a limited run of buckeye burl top premium BTB 6 string basses .... oh and I want them to have 28 or 29 frets and a smooth forearm cut. I hope they are listening.
Got the new pan pot and volume pot from Ibanez. All good now. Man, this bass sounds sweet.

Snagged this on eBay for a ridiculous price (photos are from the auction, will post more when the bass arrives in a week). BTB 470. I bought it as a potential platform, if the stock electronics aren't up to snuff.
Sooo... give me a heads-up, please. What's the weight like on these? Width at the nut? I have plans for Aggie Dual Coils and a Delano Sonar pre, or maybe passive.
