With the Aggies, new knobs and stock pre. I have a weight limit of around 12 lbs (I don't gig EB a lot and when I do, I almost always have the option of sitting, so I don't automatically run from a heavy bass), and this is way under at 9.75.
This is very late, but, if my information is correct your bass was made in 2005. I have one just like it that I bought used, and Love It! by the formula below, it was produced in October "Z" and was the 727th bass of that type produced that month.I'm in. This is my Ibanez BTB550MP NTF Made in Korea. Its serial number is WZ50727. What possible year this bass was made? Btw, whats my number?

Yes, they did. Same screw holes and everything. The B string isn't centered perfectly between the polepieces on the bridge pup, but the sound is unaffected.
I also pulled the pre last week because it seemed harsh in the top end, and because I didn't hear enough difference between the neck and bridge pup. The bass is now V/V/T passive. I may add a varitone, but that's for the future.
Hi BTBers. I'm not a member yet, but was in the market for a 5 string with somewhat wider spacing than most and I ran across an Ibanez BTB at a Sam Ash not long ago and really liked the feel of it, so I've been keeping an eye out for a used one. (Cant buy it till I sell my 1990s Ibby Saber, but I'll get there). Anyway, I came across this at GC, but I feel like there's probably something wrong with this.

That's not really a 1405e is it? Gotta be a 405e. All the 1405e's I've seen have a couple mini-switches so pretty sure that's what's going on here. I know it's a bad idea to judge something soley by the model numbers (esp. when i don't really know the differences between them yet), but I seriously doubt a 1405e is going for $350. Agreed?

yeap, probably BTB405QM from 2000-2007 productions. The cutouts on the top and lower horns don't match/don't have as deeper access to the 24th fret as BTB1405.
That is not a BTB1405E. The 1400, 1600, 1800 etc. series are premium models and the one shown at GC is an older standard model. A used 1405 would be around $900.00 or thereabouts. Premium BTBs are my primary basses …. best value out there IMO and far better made than standard models. They put a lot of attention into the necks. You really can feel the neck and fingerboard differences between the standard and premium models in Ibanez basses. I'd say go for a premium BTB if you can find and afford a used one.
I just recently aquired a BTB bass, from what I've come to know about it, is it is a Fuji-gen bass, made in 2000, it has the Ibamez pickups, my questions are, are there any issues with these early basses, I really like the way it plays, thinking of stringing it with some light gauge Sunbeam's, open to suggestions, and/or info
Some loose jamming at the Sunday Brunch I play every week. Cell phone on the music stand next to the chart. D'Addario Half-Rounds, neck pickup with the treble all the way up and bass/mid flat. Trickfish amp with controls set flat. Of course the speaker cabinet is blowing directly into the phone.

They play and look really nice. When I had one from that period, I did change the pickups though and it certainly improved the tone and punch. Mine also had some fret buzz issues that I had dealt with a fret dress. Great basses though overall.

I played a new one again at the local GC and it just feels like me. Plus, as much as I like my Squier Affinity ($199) bass (I really do - it does sound good), I finally think I've found a bass I can be proud of. Was going to go for one of the cheaper 405s, but I really don't buy new equipment often. It may not have the name recognition of a Fender, but I've played Ibanez since the 90s and know quality when I feel it. Frankly it's likely the last bass I'll ever own. So now I guess I get to read a bunch of BTB club posts to see just what it is I've bought myself!
I don't think you-all do the numbers thing, but I'm a member now I guess. (Pictures when it arrives - I'm vibrating with anticipation now!)

I just played mine the other day after not playing any bass for a few months. I've been concentrating on guitar.
How good it felt to have that huge neck in my hands.

So I got my BTB745 day before yesterday and last night I practiced with it to get a better feel for it. The one thing that bothered me a bit actually was the strings. They're very light and I'm not really used to that degree of flexibility so I'll probably need to get something a bit heavier. Not sure exactly what strings are on here now, and I might keep them on for a while till at least I can hear them in context with the whole band. We play mostly 80's and a bit of 90's rock with a smattering of country thrown in. I'm wondering what strings you-all BTBers might recommend. Also, from what I've read I don't think I need to go Long Scale even though it's 35" since it's not thru-body stringing. Maybe someone can confirm that.
But the bass feels GREAT in my hands. I expect to use this as my only bass and already am impressed with the variety of tones I can get out of it. (Now I just gotta figure out what settings for what song sound best!)

Right now, I have GHS bass boomers on mine, and I like the sound I get from them.
I always put strings that are made for 35" scale, so I don't have to worry.
When I solo the neck pickup, and boost the mids, I get a warm P-bass tone, which I love.
BTBs are known for having an excellent B string.

I use Dunlop Super Bright Nickels on mine. I love the tone, flexibility, and durability of those strings! Plus, I can scores 6-string set for ~$30.
