Yeah, that's great with the EHB, but I was more taking the p*ss out of the weight obsession around here.
The next bass I list for sale will likely include in the text, "as I post on TB, here's a pic of the bass hanging on a fish scale..."
Well you have to consider that a lot of the TB population are older ladies and gentlemen who have had a lifetime of bass playing experience (especially gigging experience) and at this point just want a lighter one. In this age of custom options and made-to-orders, it isn’t outlandish to demand a lighter instrument.
I’m 28 and I can appreciate a light instrument but don’t mind a boat anchor. It’s a blessing at this point that I don’t have a strict preference.

That’s a better case than the ones EHBs and Premium SRs come with!
I’m kind of stuck on my impressions of the case. It is 100% hard shelled, beneath the fabric, so apart from the potential weak points of a soft hinge and zipper closure, it’s quite protective. It has the typical trap door storage inside, that you expect of a hard case, but also external fabric pockets. But here’s where I have problems: I’d want a hard case in situations where I expect rough handling, such as when flying and baggage handlers will get hold of it, and I don’t know that the mentioned weak points wouldn’t concern me, while I like a gig bag for day to day transport, and find that not having to fully lay a case down and open it all the way to get the bass in and out is handy. This case is a weird hybrid that has to be opened like a hard case, but doesn’t quite have the robustness in the hinges and closure that I’d want in a hard case.
My BTB806MS weighs in at 10.12 pounds, placing it about 3 oz. heavier than my Dingwall NG3 6-string, and right in the middle of my 5 6-strings. My lightest 6 is the Dingwall, at 10 pounds, and my heaviest is a Carvin XB76WP, at 10.8.
Balance is somewhat more neck heavy than my Dingwall (which has no neck dive at all), and far less neck heavy than my ESP LTD B-206. The neck on the BTB wants to settle at horizontal, but you have to free hang it and do a lot of jumping around for that. If I’m not TRYING to induce a neck dive, it seems pretty happy to remain in a nice upward angle for my play style, YMMV. All of this with a quite slick nylon strap. I definitely don’t have to hold the neck up with my fretting hand.
