Ibanez BTB multiscales…sheesh

Any word on the T1 pups? Especially compared to Bartolini and Nordstrand.

It's shipped! And Sweetwater was so kind to send a bunch of pictures of the actual bass to drool over while I wait. But it's coming...
They have demos if anyone doesn't want to wait.
I don't think it would bother me but I've ever seen a battery box positioned like that. Kinda weird but an awesome looking bass.
If it was parallel to the axis, it would likely hit the pickup routs.
So. From the time Sweetwater called to tell me my bass was in, the bass was inspected, setup, packaged, info and tracking sent, pictures of MY actual bass were sent, and FedEx Express delivered my bass - all in 21hrs!!!!

I too have chosen to adhere to the 24hr. acclimation period before removing it from its packaging. I’ve never done that before but better safe than sorry

Don’t torture yourself! It’s probably gonna be in the truck in your locale for quite some time too, giving it ample time to acclimate with your surroundings. I normally just do 8 or so hours as I’m usually at work when my deliveries arrive at home.
Yup. It was probably in a shipping crate for 8 months too so one day won’t kill me.
Call your guy he'll probably give you a little bit more off if you ask. I do all the time and they've never said no
Very early impressions for the BTB605MS. In fact, the only reason why I'm not currently playing it is it's too dangerous to have it in my hands while watching a very rambunctious one year old (who woke up WAY too early this morning!).
This finish is bananas. It's got a matte pearly sheen, almost like what they put on some high end cars these days. Definitely not for everybody but it's awesome. Fit and finish are typical Ibanez awesomeness. However, there is an issue happening where the zero fret is buzzing badly on the E and D strings...Fretting the string, it plays great so it's like I'm trying to ignore, getting all into it, really loving the way it plays, then play an open E and... literal buzz kill. Other strings are completely fine. Messed with the action to no avail. Doesn't seem like the truss rod is the culprit either. I'm open to suggestions. I really hope it's not an actual problem.
I realize this is a really stupid thing to say but I forgot how big a BTB was lol. It's big and it's pretty heavy. Don't ask me for exact weight but it's in that range of what they were saying in the basstheworld video - 10ish lbs. The rest of the ergonomics are great IMO. There's very little neck dive. Also, it was smart where they made the perpendicular fret being pretty close to the bass side so the lower notes are less reach. Top edge is digs into the forearm a bit when playing with a pick but again, that's the BTB shape.
T1 pickups...drum rolls please...I still don't really know lol. Much like all the videos currently available on this bass, these pickups are bizarrely enigmatic. I think you'd have to see in a full band context to really know. I can say, ABing with Nordstrand big splits on the B1005MS, they are darker for sure. You do lose some high end extension compared to nordstrand. I was initially disappointed by that when I did the comparison. But after playing it again this morning (very briefly before the one year old woke up), I realize these pickups have their own cool character. They have a lot of mid punch and the lows are very strong but not sloppy at all. It's different than what I've grown accustomed to with nordstrand, but still really powerful in it's own way. They are certainly not flat or boring sounding.
There's a lot of good stuff here but unfortunately, I'm still on the fence with it. Should I just just suck it up, sell my spleen and my first born to become a dingwall disciple? I don't know. I wanted to love it immediately but sometimes, a slow burn is the type of love that really lasts so here's to hoping for that.

Having owned a Dingwall (and a fan of the music they are mainly marketed for) I can say they are not the end-all be-all. Of course I had a Combustion series and not a Canadian one, so that may be one reason. Who knows.
I sold it on account of the pickups being too… present and trebly. It was hard to dial in a sound that works for ‘softer’ genres. As always, YMMV.
