When the time comes I'm going to have to debate between a 1205 for $1200 or a Lakland 55-02 Deluxe for $1100. That would all come down to which has a better B, and which pickup config I want at the time.Achey said:

Has anybody encoutered problems with wood?? you know the middle mahagony piece is really "floppy", i bought mine used (2months old...) but i found that first owner had little accident and destroy strap button (and the wood under button) so i get it to luthier and he said that BTB has nice design but absolutely stupid to safe using....for example strapbutton on horn is permanently in danger of knock off...
and all because of construction and maybe cheap mahagony....tahts make me sad but...for that price we couldnt want miracles....
but thats i think only problem otherwise its really nice pieco of ibanez production (holy wide string spacing!!!)

Me being used to my EDA905 before hand DID NOT help! That bass has the thinnest neck ive ever palyed!
Easy fix.
Cram a bunch of wood glue and wooden toothpicks in the hole - as many as can fit and then a few more just for the heck of it. Let it dry, then sand it flush with the body. Redrill the hole. It'll be stronger than new.

...no toothpicks can help i hope now new hole will last for ages
Another encountered problem was that original hole axis is vertical to screw from brige, so when you instal lock on strap you should be carefull...but in my case new screw would go through bridge screw->another reason to make new hole

BTB is great bass but with few construction little imperfection
Not to mention infernal Varimid pot
Has anyone got any tips on how to stop fret buzz on these basses, it seems to buzz even with high action. Cheers !

Here is my gig rig in the attached photo: Markbass Traveller 15 Cab. Markbass 2X10 Cab. Markbass TTE500 Bass Amp Head. Zoom B3. Lee Rocker signature upright bass. Ibanez Premium BTB1606E 6 String with modified US made Bartolini pickups and electronics. Ibanez Premium BTB1406E 6 String customized Fretless with modified US made Bartolini pickups and electronics. I am a huge fan of Ibanez BTB Premium basses. I am convinced that they are the best quality and value in their price range. I have played US made Ken Smith, Roscoe, Fodera, Elrick ........ everything out there, and can honestly say that Premium BTBs sound, look and feel as good or often better than other basses worth between $4,000 and $10,000 dollars. At around $1,600 these basses are a steal. Often you can get 15% off them as well through GC and musicians Friend when they have their sales. I am not a huge fan of Nordstrand Big Singles however. They are good pickups but I find them too bright and thin sounding .... yet very clear. I prefer Bartolini and Aguilar dual coil pickups. My pickup preference is entirely subjective however. Nordstrand does make great pickups. Ibanez's use of Nordstrand pickups in their premium line basses is a huge testament and shows they do care about quality. I have also never played an Ibanez BTB premium model that had neck problems or fret bass. The necks are straight and the fret work is excellent.

Thanks. In my post, the song I uploaded was recorded on the Ibanez BTB1606E with Bartolini electronics installed. There are freless parts played on my customized BTB1406E as well. I tracked the chordal parts, main Bass lines and bass solos all with my fretted BTB1606E. The melody and some overdubs were played with my fretless BTB1406E. Have a listen. I uploaded the song again.Amazing setup!
Here is a pick of the twins. Some of the best looking and feeling basses I've ever played live or recorded with. Both are Identical Ibanez BTB1405 Premiums with stock Nordstrand Big Singles. Here is also a recording o me playing one of the 1405 BTB's. Crisp and punchy. I'm not near the player the guy above is but I enjoyed playing on this beautiful bass.
