What do you think If I was to rip out the frets and make it a fretless, this is just the thing I'm looking for , narrow string spacing 17mm, E-C, can;t find anything anywhere unless I get a custum build.

IS rosewood OK from fretless, with a few coats of expony resin!! ????? what do you guys/girls think?

It could be done, I'd interview some different luthiers first, before I gave them the bass to work on. Look at some of their past work and get references. I use Joe glazer in Nashville for my specialized needs and his crew has always been top notch.

I just got my 2nd btb33 and it's as good as the first one. I put a set of labella low tension flats on the first on and I'm going with Kalium balanced tension stainless strings on the new one. the labella flats feel and sound great on the 33 by the way.

A lot of 80's 5 strings have really narrow spacing, although probably almost no 33" scale.

Converting to fretless shouldn't be a problem with a reasonably good luthier. The neck might need to be shimmed to accommodate lower action. I once had a custom Peavey fretless and needed to grind down some saddles to get lower action since it was neck through.

Rosewood can be perfectly fine if you use flat wound strings. I have many years on my Rob Allen with a Brazilian rosewood fingerboard. Polyester/epoxy make for a really bright tone, which is cool but the additional high end can reveal flaws in your intonation. Some guys use a thin layer of super glue to get some protection without changing the sound a whole lot.

What do you have for strings on this recording? And have you found other strings you like on the Volo? I just bought one, and i'm working on getting a sound.
