Ibanez Ergonomic Headless Bass (EHB) club

My 1505ms just arrived today. The bass itself looks pretty good. A few minor things here and there, but nothing that will stop me from playing it.

The bad:
-The resessed route for the pots are slightly off making the knobs misaligned to the route.
- The finish is way thin inside the cut for the tuning machines. Almost looks like a fade, haha.
- The route for the truss could definitely use some cleaning up.
-The battery box is poorly fit, lid bulges, etc.. No big deal.
-The cheap plastic knobs kill me, but that's an easy replacement.

The Good:
-Absolutely stunning. I love the burl and the natural holes, cuts and divots. The deep cut Ibanez is a super cool touch.
-Frets = perfect
-Neck = perfect
-Hardware = flawless
-The weight is laughable. My Thumb 5 is 11lbs so this doesn't even feel like a real bass.
-35-33 scale was such a good idea. Feels natural and I see this helping my wrist in the long run.

My only real issue is the gig bag. Good lord. What a cheap piece of crap. The headstock rubbing against the top of the inside kills me.

Anyone know what other bag is a solid replacement?

Has anyone tried 5ths tuning on one of these? I imagine multi scale would lend itself to 5ths and I’m tempted to give it a try with the 1005sms
Yes, I am tuning CGDAE on a 1005sms, and it is great. I ordered a custom set from Stringjoy .135/.095/.065/.045/.030.
That's pretty high tension, and the .135 barely fits into the headstock, so you could certainly go .005 lighter across the board, and I probably will on my next set.

Actually, I'd want it FOR a 5-string; however, nobody would know what I meant if I was asking about a Drop-A. I likes me some 27.5Hz. :bassist:
Fair enough.
The only headless drop tuner mechanism (excluding Kubicki) I can recall was available on some Hohner licensed Steinberger 4s in the day as well as some from the Newburgh factory, but I think they're $$$. The Hohner was the B2ADB. I had one maybe 20ya but sold it as I never used the drop tuner and got a great price for it. It worked really well from memory.
Here's an ended listing I found on Reverb.

That doesn't help much though unless a BEAD 4 also works for you and you can find one.

I was given either option & I think I'm just gonna go for the replacement both aesthetically & for no risk of stripping a screw hole or anything. They have many in stock so hopefully they can vet the next one as they do seem to remove them from the stock box for photos.
Welp, contacted the shop 3 days ago, got a very friendly reply on how we could exchange or replace the tuner two days ago, I'd asked to exchange right after receiving that.. followed up the next night... annnnd nothing.

Hopefully they get back to me, not sure at what point I send another email or call. I just really love this bass & want to get back to playing it asap, 1005MS-SFM is both super gorgeous and super playable.

Btw I'm interested in all three EHB1000s, 1005 and 1005sms but can't decide. I have a back pain issue and wanted to know all their weights.
Is that possible?
People, please help me out.

My 1005 was under 3.3kg (under 7.3 lbs); same as my 1505MS. I would expect the 1005SMS and 1000S to be even lighter, although probably not that much. They're all exceptionally lightweight, to the point where my 4.2kg Lakland feels like it's made of solid lead whenever I play it standing up.

Just checked and found that 1000S is less than 7 pounds and that's really light but the only available colour is pink metallic gold. The seafoam green won't be available till the end of August 2022 and I need to preorder it. Plus my MM and Sires are killing my back.
Hey Nuage420, how much did the 1005MS weigh before the pickup swap?

SMS’s (the shorty fanned fret fiver) consistently come in at 6lb and change.

Two more significant factors for anyone with low back pain are the short reach to the first fret (it’s easily the most ergonomic bass I’ve ever laid a finger on), and the ease of transportation.

I have tweaked my back getting my sub-8lb Dingwall out of the car, just by getting my gig bag snagged while dragging it out of the car.

Not so with the 1005SMS, which handles pretty much like an acoustic parlour guitar.
