I'm looking at a used one of these for a pretty good price, anyone have any experience with em? It looks VERY 80s very sharp looking PJ bass. Ive been looking for a PJ bass to buy for a long time but for some reason left handed PJ basses are hard to come by.

Ibanez EXB 404 bass?

i find that basses with a p and j pickup combination are ubiquitous. is there a specific kind of pj that you're looking for that you've had trouble finding?
Any really. I prefer passive pickups and thick necks though. Ive seen a buncha Ibanez SR series and I used to have one but teh neck was way too thin for me. I have 9 inch hands and i'm 6'6 so not ideal for me. Teh one I was looking at in my photo seems more like a standard fender P bass sized neck/ nut width.
the EX has a little bit of a wider neck than SR but it is still thin front to back.
i know left handed basses are harder to find but fender makes a lot of pj models now. all of their necks are thicker front to back than the ibanez EX.
They dont make a single PJ left handed bass unfortunately. For some reason they have pretty much all teh P and J basses but not teh PJ. -.-
that is crazy. i never realised that. out of all the pj they make they can't make one of them left handed. i suppose you could route and add a j pickup to a p but that's not cheap.

Worst case scenario I could buy that Ibanez and swap my Austin P bass neck for it. I think it may fit, their both stander 4 bolt fender neck joint type. And there's plenty o cheap left handed P basses to find to replace it.
I tried Googling the EXB 404. It said "Bass Not Found".
Okay, kidding. If you're looking for an aggressive 80's metal tone, a very lightweight body, a thin neck, and great access to the higher frets, this is the bass for you. I'd nab it, considering the very limited LH basses out there in the used market.

I'd get a used left handed PJ body, and a left handed neck from Allparts.

Yes, the EX basses do have thin neck profiles.
What about a Warmoth (or other parts maker) build? I know it's not an inexpensive route to go, but you can tailor it to exactly what you want. You can also use a RH neck and just get a lefty body.

I find it very interesting that my bass - which I know is a 1990 because I ordered it and took it out of the box myself at the music store - has a serial number not acknowledged or recognized by the Ibanez pages. I don't mind sharing it here: 9003178, Made in Korea. Stamped right there on the neckplate. The search functions for Ibanez SN#s only acknowledge a 7 digit SN# starting in '96. Strange.
I own the 405 version (2 split-coil pickups). What the others were saying is absolutely true. The neck is very thin front to back. That's the bad news for you. The neutral news is that it's also a very light bass. The good news is the sound is clear, punchy and very even across the spectrum of notes - at least in my opinion.
Here's a song I wrote/recorded a couple months ago. The song breaks to just drums and bass at the 9 second mark. Both pickups and tone are all the way up. Finger-style over the neck pickup.

Where is the search function you are using? I don’t trust guitar dater and similar sites. Also i didn’t know they were making ibanez in korea as far back as 1990. What model do you have and do you have pictures?
Those pages are not comprehensive and many instances may not be represented especially when basses are concerned.
It's not the woodworking, the problem is it's just hard to find left-handed pickups.
