SR500 is only $549 new, can be found for $300ish used.
But really, you can always get an SR300 for $249 new on sale at GC, those are worth the extra $50 - $100 over the GIO.

But I'm not knocking the GIOs, that sunburst with the single coils on page one looks sweet! They should offer it like that once more, current has the J/P configuration.

I just snagged this baby from CL a couple weeks ago for 100$. The J pup sux in the extreme. The P pup - MONSTROUSLY FULL! Totally kicks buttox on my Fender with the custom wound Nordstrand. Go figure..... And gimme a number cuz I don't think I'm turning this little cheapo loose anytime soon.

I'm new and have some info for everyone interested. I'm 58 years old (OK - I'm an old fart) and have had a lot of basses. I now have a Fender Aerodyne and a custom built Jazz/P bass for the band I'm in BUT....I just bought an Ibanez Gio and I can't stop playing it. I payed $50 for it in a pawnshop, put $15 into it (strat knobs - a knob was missing - and a string) and adjusted the neck and behold - - - for $65 I came up with an absolute jem! I know all the high buck guys will think "what a joke - you only get what you pay for" but let me explain. Last summer I saw Blackfoot and the Bassist - Greg T. Walker - was playing a $130 Dean. I am guessing because he endorses Dean they flew into Hibbing Mn and went to the local guitar shop to rent or use some gear. Now, if I haven't lost you yet, He was playing through an Ampeg SVT and it sounded KILLER! Put a low end bass into an awesome amp and you have awesome sound. Test me on this. The one thing I learned is "IF IT SOUNDS GOOD...IT is GOOD". I just ordered a Tech 21 VT that I will use on this. I am gonna Rock Doc!!! I'm interested in opinions on this.

For those guys who have upgraded your GIOs how have you gone about replacing the bridge, I want to replace the bridge on mine but it has 6 screws instead of your standard fender 5 screw layout, should a fender style bridge be a straight drop in? I cant seem to find any ibanez style 3rd party replacement bridges online

A few months ago,I purchased a Ibanez short scale miko 25 five string bass.That was a mistake.I have nerve damage in my hands and the neck is to wide for me to be able to play it.Is it possible to replace the neck with a four string neck.Or would this process be so difficult it is not worth doing.With my hands wood working can become difficult.GC will give me $50.00 for the Bass.It seems to me changing the neck may be another option.? I've never done anything like that.Since this is a very nice bass to me it's worth more then $50.00 if I can save it,or reuse it Please help.

Way too much work to replace the neck... Currently, Musician'sFriend for example is selling a short-scale Ibanez Mikro 4-string for $179.95.... http://www.musiciansfriend.com/bass...0@ADL4MF-adType^PLA-device^c-adid^30422879667 ... I'd say buy a 4-string and try and sell the 5-string for $150-or-so, and that will fund most of the cost of the 4-string. Your easiest solution as far as I can see... good luck!

Well about 5 years ago I got ahold of an ibanez gsr100 (the 4string Gio) at first I thought I would be upgrading soon as it was a first bass and all, but as time goes on I've grown overlyfond of it. I love its sound and the versatility the thinner neck gives.I'm not sure I could part ways with it at this point. I've also found flatwounds sound excellent on it

Recently I ended up breaking the shaft on a pot can anyone reccomend good replacements? If it has any importance at all it is still stock all the way through.


I'm on my phone so I will post pics later.

hello this is my first post.
i have an ibanez gio soundgear 4 string.
Im curious as to whether fender replacement necks will fit the neck pocket of these?

anyone have any experience with changing the neck on a Gio?
the reason i ask is because i want to install a mighty mite fretless neck on this

I would suggest calling or emailing the Mighty Mite company to see if their necks will fit your gio... Ibanez necks are known for being thin, so that might mean the neck pocket is thinner as well....
