My Ibanez GSR200. I love this bass, but I really want to go fretless now. We'll see whether that means getting a new bass or just finding a fretless replacement neck for it somewhere. I haven't even changed the strings since I bought it!

Love mine. Could use a some onboard EQ though. And yes that's a bridge cover ;)

I just purchased my first new bass, yesterday, a GSR200BK. I fell in love with it the minute I picked it up.

A little background on my experience with bass playing: I am 65, never played anything but the radio, don't read music, but have always annoyed everyone with the way my stereo is set to max bass and zero treb. My one and only bass guitar has been a Johnson 4 string that I rescued from a home that was being demolished, about 10 years ago. It has a cracked headstock, and a nasty warped neck. I only just picked it up to play, last month. After struggling with major and minor scales, I decided it was time to look into something in better condition. Our local music shop had a large selection of Ibanez bass, and I tried out every one of them, settling on the GSR200 simply due to the playability. I don't have piano-player hands, and can't make the 3 - 5 stretch on my old bass. The medium frets on the GSR were an instant surprise. Great little guitar for smaller hands like mine.

Obviously I don't have much to compare it to, but I think the sound is great. I've got all the bottom that I've always dreamed about, and believe me, I've got her toned way down, even makes my cheap, used, Fender Frontman amp sound better.

I will probably drop in a set of D'Adario flatwounds on board pretty soon. Yeah, to get some more bottom.

I'm hooked.

hello, newbie here, got my Ibanez GSR200 BK way back 2005 and been using it still nowadays on gigs w/my deathmetal band. anyways, my bass only has a sticker serial on the back of the headstock and it came off pretty easy but lucky for me i wrote the serial number down on the manual it came with when i purchased it...is this normal? or does your GSR200 have etched serials on the headstock?

I WOULD in normal circumstances join the club ... but I'm selling my GSR200 from 2001. It's transparent red, v/v/t. Came here hoping for info! Can anyone give me useful information on these earlier models that might help me sell it? Value?

That's my current bass. I owned professional basses liuke Vigier but some years ago I sold all my gear. I looked for something cheap and when I tried it I got totally impressed. It doesn't sound as smooth as my previous Vigier that cost 10 times more, but the sound and playability is amazingly good. I used in several gigs and the sound engineers were always pleased with the line signal. I am thinking of buying a p bass but maybe first I will customize my GSR200. So, anyone doubting about a cheap but good bass, this is a must. Oh, It falled once and everything ok.
I have a question,btw. Is it possible to change the ative p pickup for a fender passive one?

I just wanted to say I have owned a number of basses from p to active jazz basses but I have yet to find an instrument that plays better than my old passive gsr200. The pj set up is fantastic.. it's been clunked around and dinged up but the tones out of it are still highly usable. Sure it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of some higher end basses but the bass kills. Not to mention it's super light weight..

Swapped them for a set of SGD Neo's. Since I'm big on asthetics, I swapped the chrome bridge for a black Hipshot B bridge, and the chrome tuners for black Wilkinson's. Refinished it a shade of baby blue that I had a couple cans of at the house. Just added a Bartolini NTMB last week, so now, the only original parts are the neck and body. Now, it feels and SOUNDS great!!

Late reply i know, but my gsr 205 s b string is also too soft. Ive got a luthier to raise the pups on B string side - if that doesnt work its gonna mean a set of Dimarzio Ultra Jazz s.

resurrecting maybe the least favor Ibanez club on TB...

Is there any 5 string GIO fretless user here? I'm thinking of getting this affordable bass since the 5 string lined fretless has just popped up locally as an alternate to my Portamento SRF705 BBF. I'm talking about the GSR205BF WNF.

No point in asking for a number I suppose, but I just picked up the GIO SG 6 string a couple weeks ago, and it plays like a friggin' dream. Perfect for a first 6 string, especially since I got it used and incredibly well setup for $189.

Tried every 5 and 6 string they had in GC new and used, and this spanked 'em all in the neck dept by an incredibly long shot. Maybe doesn't have the best electronics in the world, but it's suuuuper light (my dad's LTD neck thru 6 string weighs almost double) and super fast to play on. Just love it!

I bought a GSR 206L (L=Lefthand) about eight years ago through eBay, and landed here in Hawaii, the total was $221. I play 5-strings most of the time, so it took a little bit of adjusting to get used the C-string. One of my favorite basses to play - played it in a rock band for two years solid... I don't have large hands, but the way the neck is shaped, it's amazingly easy to play. Took me a awhile to get used to the EQ Section, but it has enough variety to suit me. It is V-V-T-Bass Boost, and is Totally active - if the battery dies, there's no sound!

Was surfing the net a couple years back, and came across the same bass online (Sweetwater I believe), and they were selling the GSR 206L for $199... couldn't pass that deal up, so I own Two of them! They're both Black; we Lefties seldom get a big variety in colors... A very good bass for the price.. Congrats on your "new" buy, and Enjoy!
