Ibanez GVB36 -- Anyone tried it yet?

Thank you so much Winston! And YES! Swap the pre and pu's. Mine is still running on the stock setup but the bass would greatly benefit from better electronics. I would suggest real Bartolini's to balance out the natural tone of the instrument and add a little bottom end to the sound and maybe a bart pre. Everyone's taste is different tho, so what i like and someone else likes can be drastically different. I try to achieve a warm bass tone with mids to help cut through and highs that are present but not brittle or piercing. I like an overall warm tone that can balance for slapping with minor adjustment.

Yeah, i'm gonna get some D'addario's for it when i decide how i'm going to use the bass. I'm considering getting another bass player so that they can play the low sections and i can play the chordal parts to songs. I just need to find a bassist near me to do that. It's difficult to find musicians when ya live in the middle of nowhere.

I've never met a bass that deserved an electronics upgrade more than this one.

The high end Veasley Bass GVB1006 has an Aguilar OBP-3. I'm also considering a Mike Pope FlexCore. (I've heard nothing but good reviews about the Pope.)

After the preamp upgrade, I'll decide if the pickups stay or go.

I'm a tax ruling officer it's been eight years now, but I attended my call of duty an Italian Aeroforce rifleman.

Not a pilot, I'm in the qualified reserve (I can be called back to arms in case of Nation wide danger) of the airborne (helix transported) infantry.

FYI I kept my then MIK Ibanez Soundgear SR405 with me on serving time as well...

I'm Italian man, we owe you freedom. Freedom = everything!

It is a pleasure to meet you Wallace! And thank you for your service! I wish i could be in Italy. I'm a Senior Airman and have been active duty for almost 3.5 years. What you do as a rifleman is dangerous and definitely deserves credit. I took a SR506 over there with me and played it in my free time and at the hut. It was great for helping the time pass. I work flightline maintenance so when the plane's are flying we get a couple hours of down time, then back fix em' to fly again. I hope to come to Italy some day. That would be amazing. I love the cultures of other countries because there is a cultural respect and the people seem to still have manners, unlike a growing majority of americans. No offense to any of you gentlemen on the forum, just a social observation.

Hi,
I have the gvb36 for ten days now,
it is my first six string ever.

The build is good.
only flaws are a little blem on the upper horn, something one could propably polish away. And some -propably- paint rests around the neckjoint. the neckjoint is thight, but could have been a wincy bit more precise.
The Color, the Wood, the Frets, the Hardware is beautifull!
The fretjob is very good.
The PUs seem decent, and the eq does not go for the wrong frequencies, but the pots dont seem to sweep constantly.
It defenetly is possible to dial in different sounds with it.
The Elexirs are something to get used to, or to get rid off.

14mm Spacing for me -as a 6string rookie- was something i got used to nearly imediatley.
(Slapping is a different story, and needs more aim+practive)
Going back to my lakland skyline 44-02, the fourstring spacing seems extremly wide now.

What sets me up with the new bass
is not the weight, which it has, but the balance.
I checked and opposed to the gvb1006 the gvb36 has two trussroads.
Allthough the back strap retainer thing is already moved up, the gvb36 pulls on the shoulder. Not too much but a 4.5 kg bass that pulls seems to me, that it is impossible to play standing for a longer time.

Do you know any 6 strings, in the price range that are not head-heavy?

Thats something Id like to know as well! One of the reasons i sold my sr506 was because of the significant amount of neck dive. The BTB 6ers would seem like they would balance better...larger body + long upper horn but who knows...maybe even some of the Peavey 6ers out there...

My Bongo balances pretty well..considering how large the headstock is. Neck dive on it is very minimal, and is actually more comfortable to play standing up than youd think. Just wish I could get the new MM tuners on it...I think it would probably completely cure any type of neck dive it still has..oh well.
