IBANEZ Jet King Bass, New?

one of ibanez's business approach is to offer low priced korean made alternatives to expensive american instruments. The Atk is the alternative to MM; the BTB goes against all the boutique bass makers out there; and the SR series is the hip flagship model up against fender jazz basses. now i am having difficulty trying to figure out what the jet bass is going up against? rick 4003s? gibson tbird? any ideas?

btw... i think its ugly. the btb 670 rock this (looks and design wise).

more Bird than Ric.

The Jet King guitar is supposed to be a modern tribute to inexpensive guitars of the 60's... the "pawn shop unheralded gem" such as Hagstrom, Burns, Airline and so on. I love retro looking instruments, so I think it's a great idea.

The JetKing guitar came in a Coral pink/orange color, a red/black burst, a vintage yellow too I think... I wonder if their bass will come in various colors as well?

Damn this is a pretty unique looking one, I bet the tone is awesome too.

Did this just come out at NAMM I never saw it before.

Needs a longer upper horn for better balance, a two-piece bridge (or at least a standard bridge- the junior Traben thing ain't working), cloverleaf tuners and chrome pickup mounting rings. And lose the bass-side pickguard.

In other words, they should make it a completely different bass? :rollno:

It's supposed to have a retro "pawn shop" type vibe... hence the plastic pickup rings, funky pickguard and so on.

Only the horn length would make it significantly different. I'd like to see it at at least the 12th fret, but others disagree.

Cloverleaf tuners would certainly impart more of a "Retro" look than the mini-tuners it now has. I think the bass side pickguard is ugly, and that bridge design looks new as the sunrise.

The pawn shop basses in my area range from MIA Fenders to Axls. YMMV.

Looks like they're using up old Iceman parts!

if you hang your bass low short horn is better.ithink the body shape is great.i could do without that funky bridge.but otherwise i like it.i agree with losing the bassside pg and some clover leaf tuners.long horns don't work or me 14th or 15th fret is ideal. no longer than 12th fret (like a P-bass) for me.

.
My first thought was Fender Jaguar, due to the upper horn and the whole 60's retro-vibe, though the Ibby doesn't appear
to have any strange electronics going on like the Jag-
I totally dig it (especially the Tobacco-Sunburst finish!),
but , like the Jag, I probably wouldn't get one due to the
small body, which would look silly on me-
