Ibanez Lawsuit Rickenbacker Value

Looking at a local '77 and wanted to know what an average going price for one in pretty decent condition would be? I'm not trying to lowball the guy but obviously don't want to over pay either. This is assuming everything is working. If this is in the wrong forum I apologize and feel free to move!

I had a Univox Rickenbacker copy that I sold for about $500. Don't know if it's the going rate, but the only thing I know is that I would buy it back for that price anytime, I miss this bass badly.

I picked up a '75 Univox Stereo last year for $600 Canadian. It's an actual neck through though, most of the Ibanez I have seen have been bolt on. Most of the bolt on Ibanez go for around $500 Canadian around my parts, or at least they did when I was in the market for one.

Ibby copies are regarded as some of the better ones ASFAIK. I have seen one for sale at 750, but in the general I have seen most of hte better copies in the 500-700 range, although I can't verify that anyone actually bought them in that price range.

I bought mine about three years ago for about 600 dollars via craigslist. Mine was dead mint, a closet classic with a hardshell case. They are great sounding basses, I had an original 2005 ric 4003 I sold because I liked the ibanez better. Anyways heres mine:

I suggest if its in good condition you pick it up, because even if you get a real rick later down the line, these are hard to come by and are very good instruments and a great value for the money. It doesn't hurt to have them around.

ive seen many sell for the 500 mark,even in todays bad market, i think they can stilll sell for sure

I just sold a modded 77 Ibanez P-clone for $350- a good deal, but certainly a slightly more common bass, I think.

garmenteros: the one I'm looking at looks exactly like that but it is Maple as opposed to natural. I love the rick look and sound, but I've never actually been able to play one to check them out. Their price tag pretty much guarantees I'll never buy a real one, especially with some of the QC issues I've seen. I'm a huge Ibanez fanboy and am going to try to snatch this one up.

Garmenteros, nice Bass.....I have a question for ya about your Ibby. Is it 34 inch scale or the 33.25-inch of a real Ric?

I have been curious about this for some time as my Univox is a 34 inch scale like Fender, and I have never seen anyone else comment about the japanese copies being a different scale.

My Electra Ric clone is 34" scale. For pricing, I'd pay up to $700 for a neck-through, or up to $500 for a bolt-on, depending on condition. Other factors include the quality of the pickups, and the quality of the "trim" like inlays and binding.

They call it a tug bar. If I'm not mistaken players rest their hand there will using their thumb to pluck the strings. I don't use it.

Back in the day peolpe called it a tug bar... alot bass players played with their thumb and used the tug bar to hold on to... today we call it a thumb rest and they go on the top of the strings to rest your thumb...

My collection was a hard 4 5 years of ebay and craigslist searching. The only downside, the ripper weighs like 15 pounds... Heaviest bass I have ever played, but what a sweet tone. I sold it to one of my best friends after he had his 76 precision stolen... so it stayed in the family and I still get to see it...
