I don't have a Portamento, but I play fretless and I like nylon tapewounds on it (currently LaBella white nylon).
I was so worried about my srf706 neck going concave and over winter the goofy thing actually went convex. Trying to straighten it out now.
This is only the second "guitar" I've had go convex. The other being a Danelectro guitar which was a pain, because to get the the truss rod the neck had to be removed.
...while with the Portamento, you don't even need a screwdriver to reach to the truss rod. The cover slides open easily. We just need to be sure to keep the Allen key ready.
I have the allen wrench that came with it in the case. Which I believe is why it went convex. Not the allen wrench in the case, but the case itself. I have kept this bass stored in the case when not in use, and when I was putting it back tonight I realized that the way it fits in the case that the case is putting pressure on the head pushing it back some. So I gave the truss rod a little more than a quarter turn, and put it in a stand. Seems like it only straightened out a little so far. The B and E strings are awful, the rest are good now though. I'm hoping it may slowly straighten a little overnight how I have it sitting, if not I'll have to give the truss rod another turn.
What case do you use?
I have my basses on Hercules wall hangers most of times, otherwise they wouldn't get played.
I had it in the Ibanez recommended case, I forget the model number. I have wall hangers, but the 6 strings is too wide to fit in it. I have it in a floor stand now.
Strange that they recommended a case that puts pressure on the headstock. Could be that the case neck cradle isn't wide enough to fit wide 6 string bass neck?
I have an Ibanez MRB500C molded hardshell case, which has a removable neck pillow that seems better not in used when storing a 6/7 string bass inside.
Hercules wall hanger fits 6 string bass just fine. I've been using a few of them with quite a number of 6 string basses just fine (Cort Action VI-A, ESP LTD D-6, Cort Artisan A6, Cort Curbow 6, and Ibanez SRFF806). They even have a wall hanger that fits 7 string bass neck.
I'll have to look into them wall hangers. Do you know if they make a version for slatboard walls? I have a whole wall of that for hanging guitars.
Gave the truss another 1/4 turn today, and its getting better. Was buzzing horribly all the way until the 7th "fret" before, and now only buzzes until the 3rd. I put it on the couch rested with the head against the wall, hoping tomorrow I'll see more improvement.

I called Ibanez today, had to order a screw for my the bridge saddle it is bent and unusable, and the customer service rep I had was awesome. I didn't catch his name though, but he was super helpful. I discussed my neck warp with him too, and he said my warranty would cover that. I didn't think it would, but if I can't get it to straighten out the rest of the way they will give it a go. He said I must have gotten a bad case, because it shouldn't have done that. Really nice to have customer service that really tries to help you out.
I think Ibanez' three biggest pluses are:
1) They're truly an international company and they act like it.
2) Good customer service.
3) They are, and always have been forward thinking.

I'm getting closer on my neck. I almost feel like the first 1/2 turn on my truss rod didn't do anything, now that I've gotten another half turn I feel more resistance. I'm still buzzing pretty bad on the first 2 "frets" but I also have my action set very low. Wondering what other people have their action set at?
Hey, I have an SRF706 and in the last week, the neck has moved a little. Stings were all buzzing out on the neck. I too store mine in the case, but I have a groovegear deluxe case with plenty of room and always leave the bass standing up... no pressure on the headstock.
I play this one every week so this only happened recently, not over a long time.
First time in a year that I have had to adjust it. Truss rod feels like it is very loose. Close to spinning free. I think my labella gold whites have less string tension on them then the stock strings. Right now, the neck is close to flat. No relief at all. It is playable and no buzzes.
Mine is usually either standing straight up, or standing up on the side. I never lay it flat or anything. Who knows though, weather could play a part too though. My music room is humidified and temperature controlled, but it is a bit more dry over winter. I have slowly been checking the rest of my guitars, and other than a pj bass I have I haven't noticed anything. None of my regular guitars have needed any adjustments, and that pj has a neck that has always given me troubles. This was the srf706's first winter though, and it did almost feel like there wasn't much tension going on on that truss rod. Once I get it straightened out completely I'm going to look at the case and see if I can do something there to rectify that problem.
My Fender T-Bucket acoustic bass has started buzzing on the 2nd and 3rd frets on the A and D strings in the past week. Perhaps it's Spring finally coming in and changing the average temperature and/or humidity?
I haven't played any of my other basses in about the past five days, I'll have to check them later.
That's what I love about an acoustic bass; pick it up off the stand, and play for a few minutes or an hour.

Neck is finally straight after another 1/4 turn last night. Able to keep the action real low still too. Now have to wait for my screw to come from Ibanez, so I can set the intonation.
