Ibanez SDGR SR300 as a first bass

I'm completely new to the bass game and this board. And from what I've read about the board's opinion on the low end (in this case the 300) SDGRs - its nothing but unadulterated hatred. But, $200 for a SDGR SR300 seems like a good deal for a beginner's bass.

Ideally, I'd like a fast bass with a nice low end - which it sounds like is not the SR300 - for punk sounds. I checked the 2010 insubordination fest bass thread and yes I'd like a Fender Standard P-bass but my options are limited to what people are selling in my area. TB, thoughts? Thanks!

$200 is a good price for a new one, but if it's older than the latest version, I wouldn't pay that much. Also, I cannot imagine you not being able to find a P-Bass in any area. I have two Soundgears, and wouldn't take either of them to a punk gig. Maybe an ATK, or even a Jazz (of the basses I own), but really I'd prefer a Precision.

yeah - it seems like a pretty good deal for a nice new sr300. but i really would like that low end crunch that i think i'd get with a p-bass. looks like i'm going to have to look a bit harder. thanks for the input, dano.
