Ibanez shred guitar

So my son is a guitard and he has a Les Paul and a Flying V. He has been wanting a "shred" guitar with 24 frets. Something faster then what he currently has. The V is pretty fast but doesn't have 24 frets. So my research has led me to this

What do you guys think? Any guitard bassheads out there with experience?

Something faster then what he currently has.

I can understand that he wants something faster, but then wants to keep what he has.

Ibáñez Prestige is kind of shooting for the moon, that's my dream guitar you posted.

If you want to spend less & get a very similar guitar:

yes, it's neck-through & very lightweight
same DiMarzio pickup set

For a fixed-bridge, there's no need to buy a Prestige, IME.
However, if you want a double-locking vibrato setup, Prestige is the only way to go.

I would love that guitar. I bet he will be very happy. He doesn't need a floating bridge though right?

IMHO, the only reason to buy a Prestige-level Ibáñez is:

the actual prestige of having a Japanese-made instrument

to get the GOOD bridge & pickups on a double-locking vibrato guitar

These days they are making non-Prestige fixed-bridge Ibáñez with the good DiMarzio pickups & even neck-through or with a roasted maple neck (like my Exotic Wood RG).

Oh yeah, the Prestige comes with a form-fitting case, but they're almost $2K USD.

Yeah, my son is 17 and definatley doesn't deserve a prestige. LOL. I own a auto repair shop and did some horse trading with the owner of a ma and pa music store in town. I fixed his car, he is ordering me the guitar. My son has no idea about it. I didn't know anything about that model until he sent me the link. I'm doing research on the back end.

I think if you want a "shred guitar" you should get a double-locking tremolo. The Ibanez prestige stuff is great, don't they offer a tremolo with a built-in trem-setter so you don't have the tuning instability and hassle of the older floyd-rose style terms?

Like other posts here, the Ibanez RG570 models with the floating tremolo. Very nice usually. Buy used if only well cared for but new, they are also plentiful & of very consistent build quality. Any color you like...and affordable.

Buying up there’s the Steve Vai EVO models and the JS (Joe Satriani) models that are even nicer but pricier.
