Ibanez shred guitar

Shredding metalhead and bassist here... I started out on an Ibanez and still love them to death, especially RGs, but dudes... for 2k, I'd be picking up a 7 string LTD with Fishman Fluence pickups. Casually mention that to him and see what he says. I'd be surprised if he's into shredding, but isn't interested in getting into a seven. And those fluence pups are mind-bending... :D oooh, and while you're at it... Evertune bridge. drool Although you do get some string noise like a floyd rose, even though it's hardtail...

For me, PRS is the way to go.

I had this one, and boy could I shred! :bassist: :D

The prestige line is great but the new Axion Labels and Premium line S models are also great options that are a but more budget friendly. Especially if he's just exploring shred guitars.

If you're gonna shred, gotta have a double lock trem in yer quiver.
Plenty of nice used shred guitars out there, I bet there's a few here in the classifieds. Lots of Bang for your Buck.

So my son is a gui**** and he has a Les Paul and a Flying V. He has been wanting a "shred" guitar with 24 frets. Something faster then what he currently has. The V is pretty fast but doesn't have 24 frets. So my research has led me to this

What do you guys think? Any gui**** bassheads out there with experience?
I’d check out musicman JP models. Lot of current shredders playing those. ESP also has amazing value in their 1000 series Ltds. The only Ibanez guitar I’ve played that I really liked was a $3,000 guitar lol

Ibanez sure got the "shredder" blueprint right with the S series. I'm only one to noodle around with guitars at home and I nearly bought a 2nd hand Ibanes S-Classic two nights ago. Just a whole lotta right with about every S I've ever tried out.

The Prestige line isn't cheap - I've been on the lookout for something used that won't set me too far back. If you get a brand new one and your son doesn't like it... well it's probably not the guitar's fault. That's not so much of a "first" shredder for anybody's collection as it is a "last" one - a true keeper.

I bought this a few months ago, in Yellow, and I souped it up with new knobs and jockomo stickers, and I installed the Tremol-no on it..

It’s an amazing instrument, especially for the price.

I was going to suggest the exact same guitar. Our local shop has them in the yellow like yours and also that wild ass hot pink/red and they are sweet! I'm not even a guitar player but I love me some Ibanez!

Yeah, my son is 17 and definatley doesn't deserve a prestige. LOL. I own a auto repair shop and did some horse trading with the owner of a ma and pa music store in town. I fixed his car, he is ordering me the guitar. My son has no idea about it. I didn't know anything about that model until he sent me the link. I'm doing research on the back end.
you did good. You should probably edit your op and have this be the first paragraph and mention at least five times that your kid likes a fixed bridge.

when I was still on the op and thinking of my ideal shredder I first thought "Jackson for their proper compound radius, but Fender bought them and they probably don't do that anymore. Vigier has a killer current roster of endorsers who shred, good wilkinson bridges, but where the heck do you get one? A PRS has 24 frets, and in the same pricepoint as a Prestige, has a great bridge that can be hardtailed, and look pretty sweet..." dam that looks nice.

The Ibanez "wizard" style guitar necks are definitely right for shredding. Some of the thicker ones are good too. Also recommended for a budding shredder are 9 gauge strings, a rigorous practice regimen, and a big pile of patience and persistence. In the big picture, practice regimen, patience, and persistence is probably about 95% of it. Of course excluding extremes of neck shapes / string spacings.... which guitar you're playing might be 5%.

--I'm a guitar player too, though I don't get a chance to shred much anymore. I personally prefer Jackson or Charvel guitars for shredding. I still have a Jackson that I use for shredding when I do get a chance.
Another good shred brand is Schecter, they make very nice instruments. Not taking anything away from Ibanez either, they are a good option too.
But that being said, if I were buying a guitar for that purpose today, it would be a Charvel "San Dimas" guitar. They have a similar neck to the Jackson (which I love), can be found with or without a Floyd Rose tremolo, have Seymour Duncan pickups already installed, are very versatile, reasonably priced, come in a variety of finish options, are well built, and do NOT have a shred looking headstock---so can be used in other situations where that might matter. They are also easy to find too.
