Ibanez SR 706... Yes or no?

I would say yes. I've always enjoyed playing it at GC. Very clear and articulate tone, nice low B (eventhough I swear by 35" B's).
Love the design, simply beautiful.

There was one for sale in the classifieds some time ago, good deal, maybe it's still there.

Good luck!

this bass is in all honesty, godly.
Its sexy AND it plays extremely nice. I'm having trouble with the bridge though, my b string saddle didn't stay very still while playing a gig, but i didn't realize till after, and it may have been when it took a fall. but other from that, this bass is extremely nice. Its AMAZING for metal, i remember playing on my b and it shook the whole stage.

I didn't see a lefty at GC today, but with the right amount of money, you could probably get one. This is the last Ibanez I've been waiting to play, and it took the cake. I compared it to a 506, and the 706 just seemed to reach out and shake hands with me. The sound was not that different, but just different enough for it to cause me to like the 706 more (taste in sound is completely subjective, of course, from person to person). The 706 just felt better to my hands and sounded better to my ears.

While this bass may not be for everyone, it is certainly worthy of a plug-in trial at the local bass shop. I love the Bartolini's, too. If a 506 was my only option, I'd be quite satisfied with it, but I'd be more satisfied with the 706. I believe I can handle a sixth string with a little adjustment through practice. Now to put the funds together. I've got the itch, and it's time to scratch.

Is the flamed maple top worth the extra $$ as compared to the 506? I'm trying to decide which one is a better buy.

I bought a used 506 from a fellow TB'er for $300, and I am thrilled with the bass. If I had lots of cash, I would have bought the 706 at the time, but now I'm glad I didn't. I'll keep my 506. Now, to get that Fender MIA Deluxe Jazz V...
