Don't they have a clear gloss over the burst? The version I picked up a couple months ago is a 2018 SR500PB (GC exclusive finish I'm told)
interestingly even though used and 4 years old no problems with the finish (yet!)
Doesn't appear to..satin finish, I can feel all the nooks and cranies..BTW..though it has the 3-way mid selecter it doesn't have the passive/active switch..that is an upgrade I would want to do if possible. Anyone know what that would entail?
I am a diy guy
Does anybody but Ibanez make a drop-in pickup that will fit an SR? I thought their pickup sizes were unique to Ibanez, which is unfortunate. Is there a "soapbar" style out there that will drop in? That said, I though the SR300 pups sound pretty good, what are you hoping to achieve swapping them out?SR 300: any suggestions for new pickups?

Emg, nordstrand should both have pickups that'll fit. If you could find MEC pickups out of a Warwick that would sound really unique and the soapbars might work in there. I would just look up dimensions on everything and shop it out. Whatever you do will change the flavor and it could be the answer. Also that preamp might be the real issue. Honestly I'd bypass it and run the pickups passive just so you can hear what they sound like on their own. That'll tell you a lot about what needs to happen to make your tone desire happen.SR 300: any suggestions for new pickups?
One reason why I stayed away from the SR series is that the brown stain is too even.It shows no grain features.
It just looks like brown paint.
I prefer the BTB series.
Are you talking about this generation of SR300?Yes it sounds absolutly very good. It's a very old one passive. If I open tone there is a lot of hum so I was wondering if something modern like this can help: Invalid Link Removed

Exactly! I think it's absolutly the best balanced bass I ever tried.
I also found these informations on it (but I don't know if they are correct or not):
- produced: 1996
- body: agathis
- fingerboad: rosewood
That would be a reasonable price here in the US. I’ll trust it’s in great shape…maybe not the sacrificial finish.Hey...i'm new here... i found a bass the model is SRX505 ... i think its for 2002 (idk) ... i like the pups and the whole vibe of the bass (It's Chunky)... should i get it? the price is unbelieveable ... 350$ ... trans black... gonna test it tomorrow... Help Please
That "sacrificial finish" thing with Ibanez is no joke, they still sell the SR500 and 505 basses in that "brown mahogany" finish that almost universally starts flaking off in short order. They have so... many.... basses, I won't even pretend to know which have better finishes. Maybe look at some used SRX505 online images online and try to see how they are holding up. Speaking of the SR505's, they can be had reasonably cheap used because of the crappy finish. If you are willing to spend a few hours sanding it down to bare wood and then refinishing it with something like Tru Oil, it's otherwise a superb bass. That would be a reasonable price here in the US. Oh Thanks for the hint brodah... By the looks of it , It's a Chunky boy... hmmmm ... im not a "Fat NEck" fanboy TBH... As former Yamaha BB User, any other Bass neck feels like pencil to me NGLIMO Ibanez SR Series are the best bang/buck on the market. Those basses run around $450 used in the US, so that sounds like a pretty good deal if it's in good shape. All the SR series have very slim, fast necks, even the 5 strings, so if you are fan of "baseball bat" necks, this is not your bass. Personally, SR 5 strings are the only 5 I'd consider buying, all the rest feel way too chunky for my hands.
