Ibanez SR1200e Premium

Well, I'm really exited that I finally pulled the trigger and got my first higher end bass coming this week. I know its always good to try a bass before buying but I have owned a SR600 in the past so I'm sure I will enjoy this one even more. Uncle Ike was no hassle to deal with on Ebay and we agreed on a very fair price. I will report back on how the bass measures up after I have a couple of weeks of playing time with the band.

I do not have pictures but I assure you that the bass arrived today. Overall the bass looks really nice. The gold hardware I can live without (If any of you know where I can get black hardware please tell!). All the fretts edges are nice and smooth with no high spots. I set the neck almost completely straight with no buzzing anywhere. The sound of the Nordstrand big singles are similar to my Jazz accept punchier and more adjustability. I believe these pickups will be my new favorites for sure. The neck is very slim and fast. I have big hands so its something thats going to take some getting use to.

Pro's
1.)Top notch electronics and sound.
2.)Slim fast neck.
3.)weight
4.)First grade craftsmanship

Con's
1.)Slim neck, if you like medium to beefy necks this is not for you.
2,)Gold hardware, too showy.

I would add the following pros and cons
pros
1. looks - just killer
2. playability - like butter

cons
1. no battery door
2. a bone or brass nut on a bass like this would really set it off, if you REALLY wanna go for the gold put an OBP-3 pre-amp in it, and you've got a world class bass.

Forgot to mention the lack of a battery hatch. At least you have the active/passive switch incase the battery goes dead and there is no screwdriver handy. It would be killer with the OBP-3 pre, but I don't feel a need to upgrade since it sounds awesome the way it is now.

Grats on the new bass! But how can "slim neck" be a con if you've played an SR600 before? You also mention having to get used to it - neck should be no different than the SR600 neck.

And I agree about the gold hardware - I really hate gold, those things would look so much better with black hardware. Sucks about the battery compartment too since it's on the lower SR model numbers.

I sold my SR600 a long time ago and I was suprised at how small the neck actually is coming off my other basses. It would on be a negative if you're use to big necks and even then you probably would get use to it in no time. Some people dislike pencil necks.

These things look really nice and especially since they're on sale for $999 a few places makes it even better. I've had several SR's and an SRX and wasn't too impressed with the pickups or the construction, but the Japanese made Ibanez's look much better. This one especially.

This thing sounds nothing like the SR's with the other pickups. As for as price, someone can do alot better than 999.99 for a new 1200. With unkle Ike I shot him a best offer and we met somewhere in the middle, very fair.

My friend has one of the SR1200e's and it sounds Great! It is his first Ibanez and he loves the tone but not the neck. He plays a 1999 Warwick German made Corvette mainly. I on the other hand Love thin necks and especially SR necks  I am trying to work out a deal with him to take it off his hands for some $$$ plus a 1x 12" Hartke cab.
And the first thing I would do is order the Cosmo Black hardware. Then it will look just like a Prestige model but with great sounding Nordstrand pickups in it.. :hyper:

Thank you so much man. Yea, as for as the neck goe's, I would like a little more beef to it myself. The 5th fret up I'm good, but 1st threw around 4th it feel like nothings there almost. It makes it hard for me to keep my hand in position. I find myself wraping my thumb around the neck. I guess my hands just became accustom to bigger necks. The handles on the Gotoh tuners are shaped a little different ( not that it matters). I wish I could get regular black or flat black even..

Not at all, Maybe you should post something in the pickups thread or take it to a tech like I usually do. Could be a cable, could be a loose jack, could be the bass ( I doubt it's the bass if its new unless its a loose jack).

Bought the 1200 today sounds killer but I'm getting some static elective noises every now and again are you experiencing the same?

I just got one the five-string version. Really cool. But I'm having the same problem as jay43. When the eq is on (especially with turned up mids) clicking and this strange thundering sound start happening. I'm going to take it in and see if they can repair it. I hadn't thought that it might be a common problem. Also, I tried to take the back off to see if it's the battery, but one of the screws is too loose to remove. Rather annoying. Otherwise good.
