IBANEZ SR1405E PREMIUM REVIEW

Hello fellow TB'ers, I received my brand new IBANEZ SR1405E today and it is absolutely AMAZING! I'm an ibanez prestige series collector and this bass blows everything that ibanez has ever made out of the water! It is very light with it's mahogany body and flamed maple top with grain that just glows in the light. The neck is slightly different than say my 1994 SR1305; it is a little more rounded than flat (but not by much) and it is sanded so smooth that you can't even feel the grain, it really plays like a dream. Ok... now to the good stuff, the Nordstrand pickups!!! I've never had the pleasure of playing Nordstrand pickups till now and let me tell you... Bartolini, Basslines, EMG, etc. Don't even compare to the quality of sound that the Nordys produce. Whether you want that smooth/deep tone, how about heavy bottom and clear highs or maybe a totally balanced EQ that allows the highs and mids to cut through just as well as the lows without having anything feel too strong or too quiet. The low B string on this bass can growl just as mean as my warwick thumb but gives me so much more tone through the register. For the price tag of $1200 new retail, this bass is a STEAL!!! Especially considering the price of a nordstrand bass ya know. This brings my review to a close and in my opinion i think that for the money you are getting an extremely versatile instrument that's tone will transcend genera of music and make the player never want to put it down. The only recording device i have is a video camera and camera mics are terrible for trying to pick up tone. I can only imagine that the ovagnkol is going sound a little darker. With the maple top, it balances REALLY well. I notice much more tone variation when the body, neck and fingerboard woods change i don't think you'll hear a great difference between a 1405 and a 1205 but maybe some little things here and there. I want nordy's for all my basses after playing this. Is really is the BEST toned bass in my collection and I've got a few really nice ones. I don't believe you will be dissatisfied in any way after you play one. You'll take it home :)

Dr. Cheese estimates that the groovelines have 18 or 19mm, in his review, but i surely don't have $2300 to throw at a bass. Plus I really like the spacing on the SR 5 strings, it's perfect! It allows me to attack the strings much faster and slap with my hand in a natural position. Tapping, chords, everything just plays so easily with an SR 5.

The Groovelines are 18mm, it's in the catalog. Also BTBs and SRXs are 19 and 18mm respectively.
