Hello! I've been lurking around this site for a couple weeks now, figured I'd finally jump in and join the conversation. A bass I haven't seen mentioned all that much anywhere is the Ibanez SR2600/2605. I just recently got the SR2605 as my first new bass guitar purchase and I can safely say I might not need another bass. This thing is absolutely bonkers!
The top finish on this thing is gorgeous, blue is my fav color but honestly I'm loving how it's not totally blue and has some orange/brown hues in the poplar burl. I've also got some darker gray portions in the burl so that adds a little flare. I know it's not everyone's preferred design/color but personally I think it's super cool.
Honestly, the neck on this thing is nuts. The 15-piece atlas neck is gorgeous, but the real amazement is the action. This thing is FAST, and thin too. I have smaller hands than normal, so this especially helps with reaching the B string. I just recently learned the MK Jam by Muse (drum + bass only) and if you've ever played it yourself, you'll know Chris' fret hand is flying up and down the D string the entire time. Playing something with a lot of hand movement on the neck really shows how amazing it was crafted, it's an absolute joy to play!
And the tone with these Nordstrand Big Singles, man you can get some crazy sounds out of them. The EQ on board allows for a lot of tone shaping, so flexibility is there. I'm running it into a Deluxe Bass Big Muff Pi (a la my fav band and bassist, you can prob figure out who that is now ) and just from messing with that I'm getting some CRAZY fuzz sounds out of this.
I know each bass guitar of this model has a different burl top finish, so feel free to post your pics of your SR2600/SR2605! I want to see how different they look between each one. I know GAS is such a real thing but I think this bass has cured that for me... on the bass side at least! Pedals are another story...
