Ibanez sr300 opinion??

I would get the 500, because I can't stand the pickups in the newer 300 range...the ones with the exposed pole pieces ("Powerspan", or whatever they call them.) . I can not, for the life of me, get a good tone out of those pickups. I've tried. The 300s have some great body colors and whatnot, but those pickups are, IMO, awful. The Bartolinis in the 500s are a lot better. Also, the older SR300s with the "CAP" soapbar pickups sound much better to me.
exactly, some days ago i tried a new sr300, compared with an older, the earlier generations are way better

I've got two Ibby SRs with the stock CAP pickups, and two with the Bart MK1's. The CAP pickups sound OK, but I highly recommend saving and getting an SR500 because they sound much better. Look through ebay, Reverb, or the TB classifieds - there's usually a number of them for sale.

I don’t care for the pickups or preamp on my SR300. They’re not bad, just really plain and uninspiring to my ears. I’m probably going to upgrade those at some point. Note, I have an older one with the CAP pickups, but I don’t like the newer ones too much either.

What I do like however is the low weight, great balance, smooth neck, and combo of blue with a maple fretboard.
