I've bought and returned two SR506's this year for the identical problem. It really sucks because I love the feel of the neck. In both cases, the preamp started to crap out about one month after owning them. I'd get all kinds of hisses, pops, crackles & intermittent loss of signal. And yes, I did change the battery.
Ever since, I've been a bit leary of basses with Bartonlini preamps. I was asked by the salesman if I wanted to send the basses in to have them fix. I said no. I guess it's just a principle I have. If you buy a NEW bass, it shoudn't be giving you this much trouble already. IN addition, it really makes me wonder about Ibanez's QA these days. The newer stuff seems to have a lot of QA issues, yet my 1990 Ibanez Universe 7-string is still running tip-top. No problems whatsoever.
I really hope Ibanez will get there act together again because they are incredible players....when everything works properly.

Count me in! I love my SR506! It's my main bass now.
