Sorry to be late to bump, but I have an sr506. Let me say that I LOVE the way this bass plays, but I am having issues with the preamp as well. I just want it to work! My neck pickup will NOT register though, completely muted!

Also have an older SR506- maple/maple/rosewood-
still kept original 3-band pre with mis sweep/boost,cut and ADX-6 active 'split-coil' humbuckers. Clean and versatile.
Lots diff than mahogany/ Barts/ slap switch.
Only thing it may get is OBP-3, but the original pre has much range,
and still works great.

'illstaygold'- if you have a newer one, I think all the Barts are passive, so you can jumper the neck pickup straight to the jack to see if it's ok. If it is, then there's likely a loose wire or solder joint that let go. Good luck.
Also have a 506, fairly lightweight compared to other sixes out there, feels and sounds great. I'm using GHS flats and have the saddles just about bottomed out to get the action where I like it...anyone else have this issue?
I always start with the saddles bottomed out, then tweak the neck 'til it plays ;-)
I got my SR506 used but it's in pretty good shape now. I put new gold tuners and knobs on it and polished it up and it looks (and sounds) like a million. Amazing what just a tad over $200 will buy!
However, my original plan was to get a pair of SR506 basses in fretted and fretless. So I have an GSR206 which is a great little bass but not up to SR506 standards. The pickups don't quite cover the strings so C and B are weaker and you have to compensate with EQ.
So to continue with your thought, I'm keeping my eyes open for another deal on a used SR506 so I can convert one to fretless to have an nice fretted-fretless SR506 pair.
Still to decide is whether to defret or to change the fingerboard. I converted a couple of my SX basses with new ebony fretless unlined fingerboards and they worked out VERY nice and it wasn't all that difficult to do! (Steam iron, pre-radiused board from luthier's supply). The deal with two SR506 basses is both will be 24 "frets" The GSR206 is not two octaves.
