Ibanez SR755

So I took the plunge and bought both the new SR755 & SR655 from Musician's Friend.

I have to say I love the SR755 so far!

I've been looking for a light weighted 5-string bass guitar that has a P/J pickup combination for awhile now.

On both basses the Nordstrand pickups are right on the money to get all the useful tones that you would typically want. I'm also a believer in the "reversed P" split coil where the E&A coil is placed closer to the bridge. Even while soloing the neck pickup you can still get wonderful clarity on the B-string. Sounds almost like a piano string. The passive tone on both pickups is very classy, and dropping into active mode gives you a wonderful array of musical shading. There is hardly a 'wrong' setting.

The wood in the SR755 bass is beautiful, resonant and responsive. It blends with the Nordstrand pickups perfectly. In contrast, the SR655 in the natural ash color is lighter in weight, but it does not have the balls or spirit of the 755. I have to say that the 755 has way more depth in tone, especially in passive mode, and the playability is better too. Wood matters and the 755 plays like butta!

I sent the 655 back. It's still a good bass, but for an extra $150 definitely go with a 755!

Is there much single coil hum on the bridge pickup, or is it pretty silent?

I had a SR755 in my hands earlier this afternoon, and must say that I was impressed with the comfort and playability that it offered. Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to sit down and plug it in to hear its tone. If I'm not happy with my SRFF805 when it arrives (any time now) I'm going to buy the SR755.

The 750 is on my list this year. I want to get a 755 with it for a matched set but the only thing that is holding me back is that I've really started to dislike the jatoba necks. Since I've been playing on a maple necked SR and now my premium with wenge, the jatoba necks just feel slightly mushy to me. I wish Ibanez hadn't stopped offering maple. I think it would rock on these models. Anyways, all these posts are just going to make me put my order in sooner rather than later...

Well I took the plunge after reading and looking at the new Ibanez 755. I was able to find a brand new one and a Ibanez m100 Hard case for $750.00 shipped. I can't wait to try this beauty out. This will be the first non Premium and Prestige Ibanez I've owned but I think with the Nordstrands this beauty will sing. I'll keep you posted.
Where did you find that deal?!?!
