Ibanez SR885 replacement parts

Hi

Had my secondhand Ibanez Soundgear SR885 (Korean) for nearly 20 years now and love playing it but it is beginning to look a bit tired and a couple of the pots are causing static when twisting (even after WD-40!). It has what I think is a gotoh bridge (although if anyone can correct me from the pics, please do) and AFR-J5 pickups.

The bridge is black but needs cleaning, however think this will remove more of the black and so if I can find a clean replacement I'd like that - can't find anything online that is similar and the right size (85mm across). Any ideas?

Also can anyone recommend pots to replace or should I just replace the whole EQ PCB and pots?

i think your sr885 is made in japan

you're probably better off putting in a new preamp and pots.

Hey Busman, just wondering if you ended up replacing the bridge, if so I would be interested in the original provided the saddle and intonation screws are in good functional shape (not stripped) I have a couple SR885s and am looking to get an original bridge for backup/parts to keep them going stock, thanks!

I like my 885, but agree that it would be no great loss to replace/upgrade the preamp. Don't mess with it too much - Fuji gen japanese basses are worth preserving

I have an SRA85I just purchased from reverb and I'm having issues with the sound that it's producing. 1st of all I do not know how to dialin a good tone with the sweeping mid range knob I don't know the science behind it can somebody help me with that period also the bridge on it seems to be a go to 5 string bridge in the saddle on the juice ring is all the way down and my string height at the 12th fret is 2 mm. On my Luther tool it says on that string I should have the option to be between 1.5 mm and 2 mm string height at the 12 string but yet it's all the way down the saddle it that is and I'm at 2.2 mm and cannot go any lower kin you enlighten me and maybe tell me why that is or can you tell me how low can you make your G-string go on your SR885

@Chance Batesole I don't know about your SRA, but if your controls are the same as my SR885, it has a Master Volume, Pickup Blend, Treble and Bass. I don't have a mid-range control.

can you tell me if you string hieght measured in mm on the 12th fret on g string is capable of going lower than 2 mm? Thats at low as my can go. The norm is 1.5 to 2mm for 1st string. Im Wondering if mybsaddles were replaced buy the seller.

Mine is also older than yours. Sweepable mids really can mess with people, so you’re not alone in having trouble with the tone.

in general, a little goes a long way. Set the sweep to the middle and keep everything flat on the bass.

Play it like that for a while and try to get the tone you like out of your hands and your amp. Once you play the bass as it’s own neutral sound for a while, then you’re ready to tweak.

Basically if you want a sort of scooped ‘90’s Sound, cut the mids level back a little and then sweep the frequency knob back and forth to find where you like our cut.

If you like powerful Grind and crunch and drive, then mods are your friend. Set the Freq to the middle and then boost the mods just a bit. Then sweep the crew knob back and forth until you find the right freq to boost.

but remember, just do a very little. If you dime the knob or cut it all the way back it’s probably gonna suck. Same with the extreme ends of the eq frequency. I should make a video.

Sounds like you need a shim in the neck pocket...if you can't do this then get someone who has the knowledge to do this. I had a similar problem with an old Yamaha RBX bass and I sorted it with a neck shim. I hope this helps
