The "what it's worth" rule is in place to put a halt to people trying to circumvent the rule that only supporting members can sell/trade on TalkBass. As far as I know/am concerned, it's alright if it's in the interest of purchasing a bass and wanting to make sure of the kind of deal you're getting and don't already own.

EDIT: come to think of it, I should get a little clarification on this.

That in mind, if the seller wants anything over $200 (unless dead mint, $150 seems about right), there are a lot of good basses available new for a few more bucks.
