I'm starting to look at my next bass. I like the one I'm on now, but It's a cheep starter GSR 190. I like the way Ibanez feels, and the Fender-P feels good too, but I'm still on the fence. I know I will probably just go with what feels better, but wanted to get some first-hand opinions from anyone who has handled a fender-p and an Ibanez (passive pickups).

I own both and each has their own pros and cons:

Ibanez SR300 (SR Series in general) tend to have more variety in the tone out of the box but lack that full tone you get from different (excluding the SR700+). The small/fast neck pretty much plays itself and very good for any style of playing.
Very reliable also, has been knocked over a few times but is still kicking.
Add some bright steels and you'll be in slap heaven.:smug:

Fender P-Bass Special Deluxe (P or J) provides that thick tone that everybody loves. I'm always complimented on my tone when I play my Fender. The neck is bigger so its an adjustment to play faster with the jumbo frets. I personally find it harder to slap on my p-bass but I really wanted the p-bass to be my finger style bass.
Add some flatwound chromes and you'll never want to put your p-bass down.

Unfortunately, mine is getting repaired right now!:crying::crying:

As far as your original post goes- Why not go with the fender just to have something different in the arsenal? You said you like the bass you've got now. If you like the feel (and hopefully the sound, too) of the Fender, and you're not planning on selling the GSR 190, get the Fender. At one point I was rollin' four different brands of basses at once. I had a Gibson T-Bird, a Spector, a Fender Aerodyne, and a 5-String fretless Musicman Stingray. Four completely different animals, for sure. And it was awesome to be able to have such a broad sonic palate at my disposal, simply by plugging in a different bass.

There it is. My two cents. Of course, two cents don't buy s**t these days.

I to own both an SR300DX and a P-bass. I use both at practice. Love the SR for the speed and the versatility. Sometimes you just need that growl though. That's when I grab the fender. What style of music do you mostly play? I play speed/thrash metal and both work well for me.

I LOVE PEOPLE!!!!!

First, thanks to you guys who answered the question. I'll probably go with the fender and just play with the action a bit, (the ones I tried in the store seem to have really low strings) and keep the Ibanez for slapping and jazz, since it has both a p and a j pickup.

I gotta say, the lifeless trolls who correct spelling and grammar on every message board in existence because they are obviously too lazy and pathetic to do anything better with their lives make my day. They also make me smile!
