But seriously, OP, you listed two pretty different basses. That's like asking someone if you should eat an apple or an orange. Two totally different things bro, one isn't superior, it's just different.

They're very different in terms of the physicality - Ibanez being much slimmer, both in body and the profile of the neck, for instance.

It would be Ibanez for me, as I don't like passive basses. I prefer the attack you get from an active bass.

Having said,, that, turn up to an audition or gig with any Fender and people will assume its going to sound great, and that you know what you're doing, before they hear it.


To those demeaning the OP for his spelling - lay off, it's pathetic and needless. English might not even be his first language. All he did was ask a question.

That's what happens in summer. Bunch of kids (glass houses and all, I'm still not 18, but whatever) get out of school ad find they have a whole load of time to fill. You'll see a lot of "What is best for", "Why my Fendar so heavy?", "Trade Ibanez for Rick?" threads being started by guys who joined in June/July '11.

A note to any newcomers reading this: lurk a little while before jumping in, and when you do have a question, or a point to be made, think about it before unleashing it upon the internet!

It's hard to get opinions about Fenders here on TB because you rarely see a thread about them. Hopefully you will get a Fender and make a thread about Fenders so we can finally have a discussion about them. From the very little information I have seen about Fender basses I reckon that they are like Ibanez basses but bigger.

OP: the fact of the matter is, Ibanez basses look, feel, play, and sound like Ibanez's; Fenders look, feel, play, and sound like Fenders. You can get an Ibanez for a quarter of the price of a Fender. You can get a Fender for a quarter of the price of an Ibanez.

All that really matters is, what works best for you right now and in the foreseeable future.

As far as I'm concerned, for me personally, any gig that I can't handle with a 4-banger P is a gig I don't want. You're not me though (obviously) so you need to take your own requirements into account.

Wow, I have heard it all now. Now he is personally attacking Leo Fendor because he spelled it wrong. Dude grow up, quit being a douche and stop flaming him. The first two flame posts were funny? Maybe (actually the ewok one was balls ass funny) but give the guy a break.
Dude buy whatever bass works for you and remember that most of the people on this forum cant play to save there lives are not in bands and there moms will end up selling there gear when they go away to college.

If you're used to an Ibanez neck, a P Bass will feel considerably different.

Jimmyonbass - sorry your spelling an grammar is the highlight of this thread. No disrespect intended. But I had to laugh reading your posts.

Trust me, how you communicate matters... here is why. People will judge your intelligence and competency based on your communication skills (rightly or wrongly).

Music is about communication as it is a language. If you butcher the music the way you butcher the English language, your band mates might be a little unhappy. I am sure you are more careful when you are grooving some killing bass lines, but you get the point.

Interesting that you list "writing" as one of your interests in your profile...try a little harder! ;)

All in good fun, no disrespect intended... really, my spelling is atrocious too, thank God for spell check.

I have both. An Ibby 5 string and a P. I like them both for different reasons and sound wise way different animals. Just like the best advice that is nomally given out around here, go out and play as many different ones you can find and decide from there. Ultimately you are the only one who can answer the question.
