ID This Fender

Looks like I'm gonna have to turn in my Fender fanboy card.

I've seen this a number of times. Asian-made with Basslines - kinda a cool lookin quilt top and 24 frets.

I think I've seen it referred to as a Deluxe- but that's about as specific as it gets.

Nah, it's not that odd. They come up for sale all the time, and for short dough.

What I mean is- they aren't Squiers, Modern Players, Standard Series, etc.

They are odd because no other Fender bass has SD pickups (Duncan Design doesn't count). And the 24 frets at least put this thing in a class of its own, for better or worse.

This is just another Cor-Tek contract Fender instrument with Duncan Pickups. As far as I know, they're still doing this, though the Jazz 24 is long gone and -- like most of this "Special" series -- was neither a critical nor commercial success. I've done a ton of work on these instruments (the guitars) trying to get them playable.

$600 is *HUGELY* more than this thing is worth. The final close-outs in flat black were going for as little as $169. NEW.

[Edit:] The US Duncan pickups in this "Special" series are not the same as the retail aftermarket pickups with the same names. What differences there are in these runs on FMIC contract tend to be obscure, but they aren't identical to the store-boughts and (at least in the guitars) I found Fender's choices somewhat odd.
