ID this used P bass

I was perusing around the GC website and found this used Fender P bass. It says it’s a 2020 player series but it has a string through body. Was that common for the 2020 player p basses?? Neck says it was made in Mexico. Maybe a frankenbass?

Whatever is is I like it. Nice body, neck and pickguard combination. Maybe string through was added.

I think this bass has had some professional mods done. It looks great, but unless I missed a model (entirely possible) I do believe the string through and ashtray were an addition to the Player Special I saw on MF last year.

Apart from the string through and the bridge cover (and I suspect, the bridge under that cover), it looks just like the bass I bought at GC yesterday. I would bet that the cover, bridge, and ferrules are add on customizations someone did.

A solid deal with some well executed mods, so well that IMO they shouldn't really adversely reduce it's value.

Love that Ocean Turquoise with a maple board. I’m not a big PJ guy - nice to see a limited edition P from Fender.

If you zoom in on the back in the photos, you can see that some of the mod work hurt a little bit.

Still a nice looking bass at a good price though.

I was up in PDX today and considered stopping by GC just to look at this. Great looking bass, you should get it and see if it’s a US, maybe you’ll get lucky!

My first thought was maybe it was a US body with a Mexican neck? But the serial number makes it seem more likely that someone modded it.

MiM P basses are a great platform for mods. At that price, I'd grab it, too if I was in the market. I do happen to own a MiM P bass (modded, of course), though.
