Even with a fully equipped shop with a jointer, planer, table saw, router, band saw etc. 24 hours with no finish seems optimistic.

Gives scavengers a major advantage, possibly unfair. I can think of two major ones I got for $0 if I'd get them the heck out of the house they were in *TODAY* (cleaning out prior to closing a sale) and then we have the yard sale finds (mostly planes at a reasonable or really good price as opposed to what happens when the antiques and tool dealers get to price them.)I like the idea of a $99 build contest...
How about one that limits you to $99 worth of tools.
Tools would have to be priced by current retail values, old/obsolete tools by the values of their contemporary counterparts. Nobody gets to use a 3-axis CNC machine just 'cause their friend is loaning it.Gives scavengers a major advantage, possibly unfair. Yes it was. the $100 B.O. was the first of several times that I came last in the voting. (not that I'm bitter, nope, not me, hardly at all).It was a few years ago so I don’t remember the details but I believe budget was one of the considerations in a build off.

You said it.24 hours isn't even enough to fix my mistakes along the way
I think that would fun.It might even be fun to constrain it even more. $100 max, 24 hours, design inspired by a commercially popular bass.
Another idea... a Classified section for people to buy challenge basses?

I think many of us here in LC know this.Being an idiot isn't as easy as everyone thinks. Let me tell ya,....it's hard.
