ideas? barefaced content

well, i have been haunting other threads with my photoshopped pics of various heads on a barefaced compact, and i even started a (half joking) thread in which i described a bunch of pedals going to a power amp into the compact. the trouble is, no one likes my combinations! so you guys suggest a head for me (or pre/power combo).

i like old school tone and essentially want to cop the sound of my b-15 on stage. this is meant to be a mid sized rig which will cover most of my gigs. so between 300-600 watts and reasonably light, but not necessarily micro. or it can be a power amp with some front end.

things ive thought about:

a markbass head with a vt bass pedal
a walkabout head with a vt bass pedal
a vt bass pedal and a power amp (which one?)
the new tech 21 vt head once its for sale

what do talkbass?

Hi,
I also own a VT pedal and have a Barefaced Midget on order.

My amp is a Shuttle 3.0. And I'm looking for a lighweight amp that can really push a lot of volume out of the Midget.

On my list are:
TC Electronics RH450 / Classic 450
Markbass LMIII / F1 or F500
GK MB500 / Fusion
Crown XLS 1000
Peavey IPR 1600

Walkabout is a no go for me; too expensive in Europe. Too bad.

I use a vt bass pedal into a Yamaha power amp. 800 watts bridged at 8ohms. I typically run 1 two 10" cabinet.

I have a Crown and an old Biamp power amp as well. I'm not finicky when it comes to power amps, I just want plenty of clean watts.

i've been intrigued by the ultra-lite class D stuff but I haven't been seriously in the market to buy anything.

That's what I just did... haven't had a chance to try it out with the band, but as soon as I tried the Walkabout I stumbled onto a sound that was a lot better than what I had been trying to cop through my VT + Ashdown into an "old-school-sounding" Orange 115. I'm still dialing in the specific frequencies, but what I've found with the Walkabout... with my bass's tone knobs wide open it feels like the blanket has been lifted off my tone: everything is warm, full, and articulate. Even without the VT engaged, my tone sounds "tubier" than it did through my old rig. And now if I want to sound old-school, I simply roll-off the tone knob and it sounds great. Just my .02

personally I can vouch for the Markbass amp and the Vt pedal. I got a LMII with a VT pedal through a Barefaced big one. Sounds very nice. and with the filters on the Markbass amps you can easily get that "old skool" sound.
if I were in the mark for a new amp now I'd probably go have a REAL close look at the littlemark rocker. from what I've read it's basically a LMIII with a tube pre giving it that extra tubey edge. And of course it's not that gawd awful yellow colour as much other markbass. that's IMO ofc.

personally I think there is a reason why you don't see many Markbass LMII/III resaling, people who tried them seems to like em. but I can see why people who haven't tried them laugh about them. I mean - that freaking head is the same sice as an old VHS machine. - weighs just about the same as well.

PS this combo has been tried in small venues/medium venues. I've never had any issues with this rig not being enough. I'd say even for larger venues it's nice because first of it's plenty loud for stage volume and second, the LM rocker has a pre/post-EQ DI switch which I really could use on my LMII

I own a walkabout stack and i just put down a deposit for a Barefaced Midget that i am planning to pair with an Orange Bass terror 500!
Im going for extra light,extra loud, extra dirt, and it seems like they are a good match for each other...
Should have it in a few weeks, if you can wait i will report back when i have it!

I agree! Extremely heavy at 13 lbs! Very awkward to carry! Oh wait... No I don't.

Sorry, but I question whether you have ever had your hands on one. For a guy who lusted over an Avalon U5 in so many threads, it's remarkable that you wouldn't use an amplifier of almost the same weight.
