See post #334 for what I was referencing.
FWIW, the mighty mite fit VERY tightly in the pocket, much better than the original neck fit(and better than any Fender fit that I recall seeing) I'm not going to try it, but I wouldn't be surprised if the neck stayed in place w/o screws. It's that tight of a fit.
Here's what puzzles me:
If Mighty Mite necks fit SX bodies so well (and there is much evidence of this on Talk Bass), and Fender necks DON'T fit SX bodies, then how is it that Mighty Mite necks can fit Fender bodies (which I assume is their original reason for existing)??!![]()

Whose saying a Fender neck won't fit? What type of Fender neck? MightyMite, warmoth, AllParts, etc are all licensed replacement necks for MIA Fenders. I haven't tried it, but it seems to me like a MIA Fender neck should fit.

I can't even begin to cite the posts over the last few months and years saying that the SX neck pocket is too big to make a tight fit with Fender necks. Maybe a .01mm gap is a deal-breaker for a lot of these folks. (?)

All I can tell ya is that the MightyMite maple jazz neck fits the pocket of my SX LPB P-bass body like it was made for it.

I believe you!
Yep. They are. Which segment are you?
Kudos to you savit for remaining civil and rational through all of this, despite many assumptions and worse by some others. This thread has taught me more about people than the SX and Fender.![]()
So, Savit, if the house was burning down and you could only save one bass, I'm assuming it would be the old Fender?![]()
Am I not allowed to ask questions to understand why he has the position he does, or his demeanor behind his question? You may know him better than I. I found it odd someone would own an expensive bass and yet so readily advocate a cheaper one. He has answered me regarding that question, and I have accepted his answers. Occasionally I have asked other questions to understand further.
I was talking with a guy yesterday at Atomic Music who was considering starting to play bass and asked for recommendations. I asked what price range he had in mind and recommended a few basses in the store to check out, among them some Fender Squiers and SX's.
That's interesting. I wasn't aware that MUSIC stores carry the SX brand. What's the price of the SX's at Atomic Music compared to Rondo Music?
As far as I know, they don't. They must not be new but used. I could be wrong though.
I'm glad in real life someone's intelligence isn't based off a typo, just like I'm glad in real life an instrument's playability and sound aren't based off one recording.
Well, "entertaihment" isn't a word, so what did you mean?
If you're going to attempt insulting our intelligence it may be helpful if you used actual words.

why should you have to make a choice? and honestly, why do you care what he plays? i sense some gratuitious pot-stirring going on.
Atomic Music (both stores) don't list any "SX" or "Essex" instruments in their used gear listings.
The phone numbers of the Atomic Music stores are on their website should anyone wish to call when they're open to inquire if they have them in the stores. I may call tomorrow, I could use me a cheap used SX.
UPDATE: FWIW, I called both the Rockville MD and Beltsville MD Atomic Music stores and neither have any SX basses, though they say they occasionally get them in used.
If you choose to take what I wrote as an insult, that's on you. Unless you were the one who was not bright enough to see I wasn't ragging on SX's, then where's the insult? If you were, how much difficulty did you have reading what clearly was not written? Do you see accusing me of doing something I didn't do as insulting?

I think I definitively answered why I still own the Fender, but I'll do it again for you. It's the bass by which I judge all others, and a LOT of personal history with it. It's bought and payed for YEARS ago. I've used that bass in every band I've ever played with as an adult. I've used it on stages big and small. It's the bass that "brought me to the dance" so to speak. It's not for sale at any price.
I guess you really don't get it. Some people will prefer the name brand drug. Others may only be able to afford the generic, while others might just be able to afford the name brand, but chose the generic to save a buck.
Take what you want out the thread, but IMO, (as the O.P.) you're missing the boat.
Many people wouldn't want to take the time to sort out one of these inexpensive basses to get them to play and sound their absolute best. For people who aren't "tinkerers" there are PLENTY of very nice optioins on the market, not the least of which is a number of offerings from Fender. For someone on a budget, or just not willing to spend a ton of money, these SX basses are a very viable option, are solid gigworthy basses that can and do perform admirably when sorted out (required IMO)
This is just another thread about what can be done with these budget priced basses, given a little TLC. We also have threads where the basses are dead stock as well. This one adds the "in the mix" element that hasn't really been covered before.
Most of this discussion has been pretty fun IMO.![]()
Ah, yet another example of the typical Brad Johnson derisive response.
