Identifying a Jazz Bass

today i went to guitar center and played an active fender jazz bass and on the label it said Fender 70's active jazz bass $899. It was a natural body with a black pickguard and a maplewood fretboard black block and bound and had a 3 band preamp just like the American Deluxes but instead of the new string the body bridges it was top load only. What year and model is this?

The one I saw had an FSR sticker on the back of the headstock.

Note: the one I saw is NOT the well-known FSR MIM Standard Jazz. I own one of those, I know it quite well. This bass looked like a 75 RI at first glance. I asked someone at GC specifically what it is.

jk, I don't have the new FSR "75 RI" looking active Jazz that you are interested in, what I have is the FSR MIM Standard Jazz that has been around off and on for about 5 years. It doesn't look the same.

I just looked on both Fender's site and Guitar Center's site, and neither one shows the new FSR. It may be a bit before you can find a picture to look at.

I bought this bass today, I did not know they made them, not much info out there about them, I took some pics... enjoy

This bass is pretty badass, I have been shopping around for a MIM Fender Jazz and was trying to decide if I wanted a AJD or a 70s... this was the perfect solution, plus the I really wanted a natural finish with black binding and inlays which they do not make in either the AJD or a 70s... I almost pissed myself when I saw this at guitar center. 899.99 but they have a $100 dollar off coupon. no gig bag.

If anyone knows how many of these were made I would love to know.... thanks.

no gig bag.

Just saw this at a GC in my area and I was seriously considering getting it.
BUT there was one issue: The fret ends were sticking out like saw-tooth that they could literally cut your skin!!! :rollno:

I mean, come on!!! It's not a low-end Squier Affinity.
It's $900 Fender. Couldn't they spend just 10 more minutes at the factory to actually dress the fret ends properly???
(In fact, the Squires on the wall there had BETTER fret works than many MIM Fenders!!! :spit:)

I am still thinking about getting it, though, because I LOVE a bass with natural finished Ash body, and I've been trying to get an active bass.

Should I still get it and try to dress the fret ends myself?
I've done it before several times, but never done it on a neck with black binding over glossy finish.

BTW, for a $900 bass, it doesn't even come with a gig bag???
Dang...

That is the problem with MIMs. You have to find a good one. The frets on mine have no issues and the bass plays very smoothly and is overall very resonant.

You can get the bass for less than 900. Everything at GC is negotiable. I got mine for 800 + tax because they had some coupon running but honestly even without the coupon you could probably get it for that.

I have no clue about dressing the frets on a neck like this.

You could always buy it... get GC anything goes warranty and then have a happy little accident requiring the neck to be replaced. ⌐_⌐
