I'm finding clues that this bass was made in Japan for Vox from 69-71. Does anyone have any input? Identifying this bass, Vox lp?

That's very interesting- I have never heard of a Vox anything like it. I have a Teardrop bass that I was told is a 68 *Bill Wyman* that was made in Italy, I believe by EKO, as I've been told most old Voxes were.
I've tried hard to say univox cuz I'm building a collection of them. Still nothing on the bass?
Bingo. the U on the plate is a dead giveaway. Had a few Univox Les Paul 6strings over the days
They can be any variety of that fuji-era stuff. I have had a Ventura, Hondo, etc etc that all look just like that.
Also the file name is "univoxes"...

The BASS is the intrument I've been talking about, the 6 string is a univox foresure and just happens to be in the only pic I have sorry. I don't think that the old Ibanez lp basses sport a zero fret and a neck plate v'd at the bottom like this one? Also my pick guard runs all the way to the bottom of the pick up. This bass is more closely exact to the Vox vg2, more so than the others. It looks like a National with a non original bridge to me. These were imported into the USA by Strum & Drum out of Chicago who were also known as Valco.

The VG2 plate does look like it and that is the reason I think it was Ibanez Vox and Ibanez had used a Japanese manf in the 70 the Ibanez has the same bridge as yours the name plate on the neck is also blank as is yours Ibanez used to be a copier of instruments before they put out their own line in 1976 and were sued by Gibson in the 70's for coping them so well. Vox went to the same company to produce their Vg2 6 string but, the bass that came out along with the Vg2 was never a les paul bass but a double cut away named a vg4 and a Vg6 to match the double cut away vg4 Invalid Link Removed again my reasoning for it to be Ibanez early 70's
Whatever it is, I like it very much! I would love to have one; I'd replace the pickguard and jackplate with gold ones...

Am I wrong to want to eliminate it being an Ibanez, due to the lack of being able to find one with a zero fret? There's also a chance that the neck plate on old Ibanez arn't the same as this bass. Any one know what the plate looks like on an old Iban?

Univox, Aria, and some Ibanez basses were made in the same factory (along with a crapload of other brand names). That's why so many of them are so similar, yet have different brand names. The basses were mass-produced and then branded later on.
This one is definitely a Univox. The "U" neckplate is a dead giveaway, and is found on many Univox basses from the same generation.

The one with the U isn't the one we're talking about. This just happens to be the only picture I had to show the plate that on the BASS
