I believe it is a Cort, but from the early 80s not the 60's.
Just like this one. Note the shape of the headstock and also no logo on the headstock (the brand name was indeed on the Truss rod cover). Same tuners, same shape, just a different finish.
Good news is that according to this listing, it's super light.

I’m going out on a limb and saying it’s an 80’s MIJ that’s been refinished. That colour(not that it looks bad) seems way off, that stripe down the middle on a solid painted bass just ain’t right, the coloured truss rod ain’t right.
Again, I could be totally wrong.
I found a Cort on Reverb and the headstock matches exactly as well as the body lines. Pickups were different but other than that it looks all the same. It was a 70's model. Owner wasn't sure of what brand or year, hopefully he will message me again tomorrow. I'm excited to see it & hopefully own it. It will be my first Vintage bass!

But, after seeing a pic of the Cort, I agree that's probably what it is.
I was thinking Vantage, also. I was trying to buy one last year for $50 that I saw on marketplace. To the best of my recollection the headstock matched this one. I asked the seller about meeting in a very public place (for everyone's safety) and never heard back. I guess it was not meant to be.
I thought Vantage or Westone, looks similar to a few Matsumoko plant basses
Craigslist, Marketplace, etc. Some people are just scared. I always let them know I am a teacher and not an ax murderer.
If you have the ability to do the mods yourself, It might be a good idea, but if you're paying somebody else, you'd be better off getting a better stock bass for the total amount you're going to spend.
My guess is that's a 70s - 80s Cort. MIJ basses from that era overall aren't the kind that need a lot of upgrading. There's a good chance that pickup on there is an actual DiMarzio.

It's likely a Matsumoku instrument. That, if I'm correct about it's origin, is the ACTUAL builder. For the rest of the world, sadly, they created multiple fake brand names to sell as, since there was so much working against any japanese company selling products outside of Japan, let alone japanese instruments which had a briefly very very poor quality record in the 60s.
Cort/Vantage and several other less common "Brands" were made by them.
They are all excellent instruments, assuming good condition and good setup and no bad modifications.
