IEM: Carvin EM900 vs AT M2

So? I am curious as to how soon you are going to make your decision. Once tax money hits, I am purchasing one and I have my mind pretty set on the Carvin. New, it is the best price and features out there. The old PEM-500's were made by Nady and I know that Nady had the PEM-1001 which were the same as the Carvin's, but Nady doesn't carry them any longer. So, I am thinking Shure is making them under the Carvin name. Just a guess though, because I really think Shure doesn't make their IEM's either.
 
Apparently, out in the hinterlands some groups are *still* using legacy gear operating in the 698-806 MHz bands.

Sure, but consider this:

Think about it like this: a member of your congregation uses a TV Band Device to surreptitiously check sports scores during the sermon, but the pastor's RF lav interferes with the TVBD. The owner calls support and says "yeah, I only have this problem on Sunday at the church...."

The point is not real world problems, the point is you're trespassing on the property of others.

Just a thought.
 
In the 700 MHz band, it's potentially even more serious. Some of those frequencies are used by wireless broadband, but others are used by police, fire, and EMS. I'm not encouraging running your old 700 MHz in Manhattan, any more than I'm encouraging driving at 70 mph through Times Square.

But if you're playing the outskirts of Green River, Utah, you might find the traffic a lot sparser on both the airwaves and the highways. Especially if you know what bands are in use.

Wise? Probably not. But do all real-world musicians find that extra-legal capacity literally useless just because it goes against legislation? Just as a simple description of actual practices: no.

Gotcha...so mono will put the same track in both ears?

Yes, that's what it does. Here's a tip for you... In mono mode with two signals coming in, you get the same thing in both ears but you can adjust how much of each signal you get by using the balance control on the receiver. So you can get a generic mix of the band in one input (I sometimes just use the FOH mix or lead vocalist's mix if there's not enough Aux Sends), and just your bass and/or vocal in the other input to give yourself an adjustable "more me" mix.

You can use a 1/4 in TRS cable to feed the transmitter, or use XLR. It is possible to have the transmitter at mixer, but I like having it near me on stage because I've learned that I'm the only one who cares about getting the gain setting right :)
