well, keep in mind that if you sell the 4001, you'll never get it back, nor will you find another like it. They'll probably keep making that exact 4003 for many years to come (I hope).

The 4003 is nice, but the 4001 is certainly unique.

That 4001 is simply amazing, if you had to keep one, you should definitely keep that one. I've never seen a Ric like that, it's beautiful and one of a kind. You can always get another midnight blue anyway.

Try anything to keep both. Worst case, keep the 4001 for all the obvious and previously stated reasons. I also have one of each, and would hate to lose either one, and my old 4001 isn't nearly as cool looking as yours. Tough spot, hope you can work it out.

I sold my first bass (a crummy Hondo, no less!) and spent 3 years trying to track it down to get it back. And I'll never see my first guitar again -- I've forgotten exactly what I did with it now.

I have a 1973 Ricky 4001 FG. I have had people offer to knock me on the head and steal it. And it sounds awesome. I've played a 4003 and if your 4001 is in good shape and doesn't have neck issues, keep it. The 4003 is like playing a boat paddle. You will, as everyone else has mentioned, never EVER see a 4001 again unless you creep into an owner's house and steal it. I've noticed that they are significantly harder to find than they were about 10 years ago.

Of course, you might want to explore donating plasma rather than giving up a Rickenbacker. As I said, I do not under any circumstances sell my guitars anymore. Even my crap ones. I have 5 basses and 4 6-strings, and they're never leaving me.

I think a good Midnight Blue Ric looks gorgeous (got one).
BUT... the green one has a real wow factor and is NOT replaceable.

Bear that in mind... Think hard.
Keep whichever sounds and plays the best.
Make the right choice!

hmm

i much prefer the 2007 4003's to 4001's and older 4003 so i would keep the 4003. ( i actually own one in midnight blue as well.

but the 4001 is in a cool colour and you wouldnt be able to get another one.

if you plan on gigging the bass lots id keep the 4003

I didn't vote. I think the blue one looks MUCH better but I usually prefer older instruments, so for me it's 50/50
