If i had $8499...

I can personally attest to both Pete and Jason's dedication to their craft and their desire to please their customer. If they were only in it for the money, that dedication would only go so far. But I've spent enough time on the phone and exchanging emails with both of them to know that they deeply care about what they build and who it is going to. I swear that both of them are more excited when a bass is done than the customer.

Like I said....I don't remember....but you were on me about something and I am pretty sure it was in one of the cheapo bass tribute threads...though I could be wrong, of course.

I was "on you" about another of your long term feature length misguided IMO anti-affordable bass rants. You refused to read responses for actual content, probably why you think I said something I obviously never did.
:)

No, I for one don't think he is trolling. He has been a member of this forum for a long time.
Sadly, this is just a typical attitude towards high end basses that is contagious of this forum.

My opinion is that is is a form of anti-elitism. Most of these guys flaming high end basses have some sort of jealousy towards the people who play them. A large majority of people willing to spend bucks on a premium instrument, are themselves excellent players into jazz (as clef de la fa pointed out) and that makes them something to be villified, not admired.
On the other extreme are those players so insecure that they really want you to believe that the tone is ONLY in the hands, and that the instrument does not really matter. By default, I believe they are really bragging about their prowess on the bass, in an underhanded way. Scoffing at those players that they think need the premium bass to sound good.
This, despite the ample evidence that many top players use top basses, not squiers, and not SX basses. I feel they get a real kick out of supposedly bringing down the house with their cheapo bass, as if to say "hey, look at me...I can shred on ANYTHING".
In past threads over the last couple of years, I have read amazing statements made by these people. Even going as far as to blame you hi-end instrument players of price gouging.

No, SMCD's attitude is probably what he really feels. Sad that so many seem to agree with him.

Exhibit 413.

Still wrong. And you know that is not all you ranted about.

Get it?

I remember that thread (threads?).

The old adage "you get what you pay for" works out like most things that show a strong correlation. Your odds of getting a great instrument generally increase in price.

But assuming that it's always the case or that there are no outliers is a tough stance to defend.

I learned a long time ago not to speak in absolutes. Some people just can't help doing so though.

Yep... threads. And his position was ridiculously absolute laden. That's why IMO it was so problematic. And the fact that I mainly play "boutique" instruments and still thought he was offbase really threw him for a loop.

My guess is that most who dwell in absolutes don't really see them as such or don't actually mean what they're literally saying. But they also tend to dig in harder under any scrutiny. Funny.

I don't think I have EVER dealt in absolutes. Most times, I am careful to say "In general" before stating an opinion. If you had read any of MY posts you would know that.

Sadly, this is the result of the corporate take over of Fodera

Vinny and Joey and Jason, and everyone there, are my friends, and comments like this pi$$ me off because they are so totally lacking in fact, logic, and general basis in reality.

Plus, KNOWING what I KNOW, it is very clear that you know nothing of what you're speaking. If it's just your opinion, state it as such.

There was no corporate takeover of Fodera. They partnered with another company who actually knew how to manage a business. This move has been NOTHING but GOOD for Fodera, and it's customers! They now provide a better product, more efficiently (time-wise), more predictably than they ever could before, without compromising one iota of quality or craftsmanship, and although prices may have gone up, not really by MUCH in the big picture. Fodera might not exist today if it hadn't happened. In REALITY, their prices are far BELOW a level where they make anywhere near the amount of profit a "big corporation" does on their product. They are dedicated to making the best possible instrument they can, and there are parts of that equation that cost a lot of money, no matter how they try. I'm sure they could make you a cheap instrument....and it would be a cheap instrument. Yipee...another cheap bass. But they wouldn't, because what they produce really matters to them.

It also really takes a lot of ball$ to come on here and make a comment like that where the head of the "corporation" that "took them over" has openly, and very graciously and candidly been posting. Just plain rude, really.

I've toned this post down in rereading a few times, since I was super angry when I first read your post. If your comment was meant to be inflammatory, congratulations on your success.
