Even with all the downforce from wings and huge tires, It's hard to imagine how they get all that power down to the track surface. There's a real science to sprint cars. I wish it was more popular in Florida.

I already posted the Blackbird a few pages back, so a huge +1 there.
I think it's a shame that it's not used anymore, especially as I think that the U2 is still flying. Kind of seems like a step backwards. Watching James May's On the Edge of Space really made me want to ride a Blackbird, the same view but going +Mach3

Gotta love the MGBGT's! My Dad converted some of the British electrics to American. I know that he did a lot of machining on Mallory distributors to make them fit the British motors. His always ran well but he spent a LOT of time making them so so
Sounds like you had a wonderfull Dad to hang with, as I did also. Dad had bikes all of my lifetime. British Matchless 500 singles and an AJS 500 flattrackker, then he went to BMW's, in his later years. When you talked about tuning the Harleys, it always reminds me of the thing I learned from all the old boys that ran them in the hillclimb sport, up here in the midwest. I was recently putting a Scream'in Eagle carb, on a good old friends 71 Sportster 900. He was asking about why I was doing certain things, so I told him, it's like up here in the north with your young little Finlander girlfreind. You want her to be a little bit lean, and a little ********. Thats where the old cast iron, runs the best.

Not sure if I posted this already- it's the WW-II Japanese I-400 submarine, which carried a pair of catapult-launched aircraft intended to bomb the Panama canal(IIRC- google I-400 & you'll get the whole story- I'm asleep at the wheel right now..).

Actually, IIRC the planes' floats(water-landing *gear*)were jettisonable, and the mission was expected to be one way. Bushido, baby.
