i caught the clipsal 500 on the tele today... never seen the australian v8 supercars series before.. pretty cool. it's like nascar meets touring cars, lots of great reeeally close wheel to wheel racing.

I saw one lift off when I was a kid. I was many miles away but I could still hear, and feel it! In my opinion the Saturn Vs were the most incredible and impressive machines mankind has ever made.

IIRC, they were five Rocketdyne engines in that first stage; I'll have to look up the model. The third stage had the same engine, but only one. It was very difficult to design such a powerful engine without the nozzle vibrating itself to destruction; at times it seemed it might be impossible.

That was one majestic rocket.

I had that one, too!

I also had a Revell model of the Apollo LEM and the service and command modules. It was a larger scale, though I don't remember what it was exactly.

According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saturn_V, the second stage used five J-2 engines on the second stage and one on the third. (I stand corrected on that.) They burned liquid H2 and O2.
