Thanks barnaclebeau:

I know, not only can I not spell, but I'm not very compputer literate to boot. :( That said, what's the http address of the attachment, and, or where do I find it?

Moveing on. I spent most of my day geting stuff for some new jigs to make my life that much easier. None the less I pulled my neck out of the clamps and cleaned it up. (along with some others) and started thickness plaining the sapele for body wings.

Again, thanks barnaclebeau, but I still haven't figured it out. :rollno: If I could cut and sand it... I would make it happen ;)

what I do, is first upload the pictures to photobucket or whatever.
Then, right-click on the picture, and you'll see an option that reads "copy image url" or something like that.
then, when writing your post, you'll see there are some options above the text you're writing. One is a kind of landscape or pyramids. Run your mouse over that, it reads "INSERT IMAGE".

Click on that, and paste the url you copied before (try "ctrl v" for that, or right click and "paste".
there's a "preview post" option, check if you've done it right.
this is the url for one of your pics:

http://www.talkbass.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=231045

copy all that text and put it on the insert image option.

I see you have a supporting membership so you upload your pictures here... I suppose it should work just about the same, not sure.
hope it helps! it's looking good!

Ok guys, I get to do some work this week end. :D Pics will be posted, don’t worry. Till then here are some specs.

4 string neck through bass, 34” scale, 24 frets
1 5/8” @nut
2 ½’ @ 24th fret
Neck wood- purplehart, maple, sapele
Body wood- sapele, maple
Bridge- black hipshot A
Keys- black hipshot ultra light
Wood knobs
Pick-ups- basslines by Seymour Duncan
Finish- undecided :hmm:

I think that covers it. Talk to you soon

Well… I can’t make up my mind. :hmm: I’m ready to get the fret board going but can’t seem to make a decision; my choices are santos rosewood, wenge, some crazy laminate veneer thing, (what I was originally thinking) or purplehart. Any opinions out there? I don’t want to do the purplehart, but I thought I’d throw it in there as an option. I’m leaning toward santos, but I love wenge. I guess ill drink on it… I mean sleep on it.

Till tomorrow good building

So… it was a productive day. Although most of it was spent picking up supplies , and doing work for my other Luthiery gig. I got some overdue basics done. Truss rod slot, routed, fingerboard, decided and cut. I went with the wenge, i love the stuff and I’m just wanting to do a nice, straight forward, 4-string bass (It’s sooo tempting to do crazy laminates and veneers for me) who ever they are, they say less is more :spit:. I am fortunate to have a router table, it makes routing for truss rods quick. Find center of the neck, (and your router bit) mark a line on the outside (of the neck and table) to know your ending point, flip it upside down and (in small increments) bob’s your uncle. A taper jig made short work of the finger board (finger board/fret board, I guess finger board makes more since seeing as they don’t all have frets). Then as the dust settled I plotted bridge, pick-up, and wiring channel locations. To connect the 2 pick-up cavities (at the moment, I’m thinking jazz style… maybe P. J. we’ll see, or…we’ll see) I like to rout a small channel on the treble side of the neck before gluing on the wing for the wires to pass through(I’ll have pics when I get there). That’s it for today, not as much as I’d like, but its progress

And to finish my day…

Yep … A classic, a beers beer, and honestly my favorite.

Till next time :bassist:

Thanks for the heads up J Lund. I was trying to make the thumbnails go away not the whole pic and my computer was still showing them. But I fix it, at least in a way that works.

Up-date... I’m thinking with the wenge finger board, I'll do a wenge nut and T.R.cover.
Probably going to attempt my first wooden pick-up covers (sapele maybe with wenge tops) and I haven’t decided what wood combo for the knobs. Probably the same combo as whatever the pick-up covers end up, to be all matchy matchy.
Keeping you posted

O.K… I’ve done some work. Still waiting on hard ware and PUs, :spit: but I thought I’d try to work around that. So my productive day in the shop doesn’t seam to look like much on paper, but I’m happy. I started with getting the neck lams. Going For the 5-string (same woods, different configuration which includes the sapele taken out of the 4-string). After the milling process (cutting, jointing, thickness planning, all the fun stuff) I decided I had to make a veneer press (like the one in pilotjones “Storm King build” thread, thanks pilotjones!) 2 pieces of ¾” MDF about 7 ½”-8” wide 4’ long with holes drilled around the edges about 4” apart (I may have gone overboard) allowing the 2 pieces to be bolted together and waxed them(the MDF) with furniture past wax to manage glue squeeze out (the glue won’t stick to the wax, in theory,).

Now for that pesky body angle.

I was hoping to have the bridge before doing this, but… I was able to take a measurement at work (hipshot A) and make a good guess. First I cut off the bulk at the band saw and then… yep, a whole lot of sanding and what not to make it square, level and a little better than government work (for now).
