So i have a bunch of parts here - basically all the stuff to build up a P Bass (except for tuners...easy enough to get..and a less "beat up" pickguard). I'm not usually crazy about red, but this mockup does (admittedly) look good...a bit better than Fiesta and tort, IMO. A bit richer in color. I have a Fender OV62 pickup, pots, a nice neck.... I wasn't going to build it up on this body because it was red, but now I'm reconsidering.

Should I build it ? What say ye ...."Yay" or "Nay" ?

    So Cal
Everything you build is cool, unique, or flat out awesome in some way.

I decree "Yay" and further say... let the build commence!

I'm already waiting for the "fence shot."

  3. Build it. If the parts were mine, I'd use a white pearl or black/white/black pickguard.

  4. I would put a Black or white PG, IMO the tort doesn't work with the red, it clashes.

I like the tort. Think it pulls the fretboard and body together nicely. Very sharp!

i vote nay and here's why.
you don't usually like red. and even though the red/tort combo is appealing to you right now, it will grow old for you very quickly.

you should refin the body into a color that you love and then buildeth thy bass

Actually, the red/tort combo is just "ok" to me...that's why the poll. I don't love it or hate it...though I do like this red better than Fiesta with tort. However, many people here know that I usually build a couple basses (or more) per month, so I'm not really worried about getting bored....I'd probably only have it for a little while anyway knowing me ;)

I say build it and ship it off to some kid in need of a bass that otherwise couldn't afford to have one.
If there just parts and really have absolutely no real emotional connection or legitimate need, I'm sure there are TONS of kids out there who would cherish the hell out of it.

Further more donate it to a kid with an invite to TalkBass to come for advice and guidance.

Wasn't there just a thread about people donating old and new strings when traveling out of the country? Send it with one of those guys or have one of them get you an address on there next trip.

Not a sermon, Just a thought.

I would if I could afford to. Unfortunately I struggle every month and do the best I can. If this goes anywhere, it's because I need the money to survive.

I've donated basses in the past...one to my bro's church and one to a needy kid from a mission in downtown Indy ...but I can't afford to do that now.

    COMPLETELY, Understood

Ok so since that's not an option and you say it would help to make a few bucks then there really is no question here at all.

Build it, play it, clean it, sell it.

nice start. I'd use a gray pearl pickguard.

Build as is. Nothing wrong with red. As for the tort guard, it doesn't look like modern tort guards, use it. Use tarnished washers to hold down the two corners of the guard, old school style.

  19. I say build it up and make a pile of parts into a bass and then sell it to someone on here, fun project, cleans up the house and puts cash in your pocket.

I think I'll go ahead and build it...heck, if I don't like it I can always break it down and use the parts for other things....
