I'm not into these 2, 3+ grand boutique basses everyone likes, I don't see why most people like them. If I could have about 10, I'd take:

I'd only have more than say, three or four, for any concievable situation, not for just having them:

- One 4-stringer tuned EADG (and perhaps a backup)
- One 4-stringer tuned BEAD
- One 4-stringer tuned ADGC
- A fretless 4-string
- A short scale just in case
- Maybe an active bass
- Maybe a good acoustic bass
- Maybe a 5-stringer (unlikely if I already had a BEAD 4-stringer)

In reality I'd only have the first four minus the third option.

Wow! That's a nice thread. I own just 7, but I'd like to have more, plus another DB, plus a violone, plus...

So this is my list, the first thing that come to my mind early this morning:

1- Fender J 1964, (rosewood, maybe sunburst)
2- Fender J 70's (candy apple red, or black w/black pg, bindings on rosewood fingerboard)
3- Fender J 1962 fretless (yes, I like Jaco...)
4- Fender P 1965, black, rosewood
5- Fender P, anyway old, candy apple red, maple
6- Sadowsky (or Fodera, or something like this) custom J-style custom, quilted top, rosewood (or maple with pearloid block inlays in case the body color matches well)
7- Sadowsky (or Fodera, as above...) J-style, but 5 strings
8- Rickenbacker 4001, just to own one: not my kind of bass but still a great instrument
9- Music Man Stingray, but a strange and very rare one: light-weighted!
10- a totally custom made bass, lightly bizarre for shape and color, made just for me by some wonderful yet still unknown luthier, so everybody would ask me "what's that?"

Could I be satisfied? Well, this could be a start...
