If You Could Only Have Two Basses...

I've got it.

This:
(Not mine, but I own one exactly the same.)

And this:
(With any luck, I'll have one on its way to me soon.)

That's a Fender FSR Jazz bass and a Fender Classic 50's Precision bass.
Ahhh. Beautiful.
Both of these brand new totals about $1,150, but used you can easily keep the cost under $1,000.

Someone buy my basses so I can get the latter sooner! :hyper:

I currently have 2 basses in my posession, which happen to be the 2 basses I love most. An '02 Fender American Deluxe Precision, and an '08 Rickenbacker 4004Cii Cheyenne, tuned to D standard. My 3rd bass, an '06 Ric 4003, is in my son's posession, but still mine, technically, though I don't expect him to return it to me. So yeah, 2 basses, fine.

I would keep my 83 Squier P, and my 85 Roadstar II 5 string.
Together, they cost me less than $400.

I might try sneaking in my 84 Squier J and my Roadstar II 5 string, fretless.
All four together cost me less than $800.
Is that ok? Please don't tell... :)

I like the Fender Modern Player Jazz a lot more now than when it first came out. Maybe I came across a good one. That's under 500. Gretsch G5123B is around 600-700 used so I'd have to get both used that would keep it under 1K.

These fantasy threads are always fun & hard to resist arent they.

Could any of those be had by themselves for $1,000? :p
The question is a little more specific than the thread title.

Indeed!

#1 Squier P-Bass Special because I already own it, it covers the old school vibe, and it was less than $300 new.
#2 Carvin BK50A bolt on neck active 5-string bass kit. It's the same bits as the $800 (base price) B50 production model. Just do the finish and assembly and you have a high end bass for around $600!

How about this combo... Two American-made basses under $1,000:

MM SUB-5: Great, versatile 5 string with that classic Stingray sound
Fender Hwy 1 (J or P): Choose whichever is to your liking

Both of these basses can be found in the TB Classifieds for +/- $500... and you'd have the best of all worlds.

You can thank me later.

I've had (and extensively researched) the Highway Ones. The cheapest I've ever found was a '10 Precision at $585 shipped.
I was fortunate to get it at that price, and I have yet to see one sell for less than that.
I loved that thing, but traded it off for a Jazz for some reason. :rollno:
And without looking it up, it seems I saw an older MM Sub for around $600 or so the other day.
So your two are pushing the limit, but they are excellent instruments. Good call!
