I'd sing. I already sing backup/harmonies, and love that as much as being a bassist. But without a bass, I would definitely focus on vocals more.

I already play other instruments, but they do not lend themselves to gigging.

I am curious to hear from TBers what instrument you would choose if for some obscure reason you can't ever play the bass again?
(I know, blasphemy)

Wow...that's a tough one. The other instruments that I have a foundation in and would want to play are guitar and keyboards. But if I can't play bass, I'm going to presume there's a problem with my hands, and that would pretty well preclude playing guitar or keys.

I actually had a bad flare up of psoriatic arthritis in my hands about a year or two ago. Couldn't straighten out the fingers in either hand and they hurt a lot if I tried to squeeze anything in them. If I didn't try to squeeze anything, they just hurt. I also play guitar, but there was no way I had the flexibility to play it. I could still play the bass as long as I held the neck in the correct position. So if my hands can't play bass...I'm pretty well screwed! I might try to get a position as a lead singer for a group because I don't need my hands to do that. But "voice" would have to be my instrument if I could no longer physically play bass.

If you are creative, you need to fill the void. I took up illustrating and got a degree in visual arts. I was even voted the Fine Arts Contributor of the Year my final year of undergrad.

I already play more saxophone than bass, mostly bari. For my own enjoyment, alone, mandolin is what I prefer. But nothing is ever going to be better than playing bass with other musicians.

Not sure - I play guitar fairly well, keys not so much but I can use them (wouldn't call it playing, lol). Probably I'd focus more on music production / audio engineering even more than I do now.

Big trombone fan here too. Always wanted to play hard rock with a big horn section. Heavy on sax and bones.
