If you had to choose one brand...

I’m surprised I haven’t seen Aguilar on here. Not perfect pedals, but they cover ask the necessary bases!

Fair enough. But if you wanted the most comprehensive effect ecosystem you’d be hard pressed to find something the BOSS family of pedals doesn’t cover - and with multiple choices within the different categories.

Close seconds are JHS, EHX, and SA for comprehensive catalogs.

If you could only use one brand of effects pedals
Does a tuner count for this thread? For bass the only pedal I need is a tuner, and the only effect I currently use is an HPF/LPF - is there one company that makes both of those? I prefer the Sonic Research Turbo Tuner and Broughton HPF/LPF (actually I use the Broughton Messenger preamp for HPF/LPF because I like having its four-band EQ for emergencies even though I don't generally use it).

For guitar, on the other hand, the answer is Boss because they're about the only brand that provides the full variety of effects that I want on my board with good tone, great build quality, and prices I can afford. There are a couple of reasons why I don't actually use all Boss in practice, but if forced to use only one brand that's the one I'd choose.
